Still striking?

New pastel ball on Wednesday had some striking at the cage issues as I stated in another thread. Pulled him out today and he struck at everything in front of him. Used a leath glove to make him go into a ball but anyway to fix this? Best way I can describe it is this video

please help me fix this issue. He's 6months old and the mrs. Is not comfortable with this in the house

In your other thread that you should leave it alone for at least a week to get settled in. You were pestering the snake a lot in the other thread and her you are again handling it within a week. I meant a seven day week, not a five day.

If you allow it to settle in and then start slowly teaching the snake you are there to care for it and not hurt it the snake should stop striking. It may also take you getting tagged a few times for the snake to learn that it can not deter or harm you.

Their bite is pretty harmless and is described as brushing against Velcro. Its not a Emerald Tree Boa so you will be fine.

Aye, if you got the snake Wednesday, you shouldn't have interacted with him since letting him into his enclosure. He's still getting used to an entirely new environment.

Not that it's necessarily relevant, but I'm curious about your process to get him out when you've handled him.

I'm aware of that now. I will not interact with him till about Friday now. When I get him out I lift his log pick him up from behind and hold him. This is when he pulls his head back and then goes into striking position and strikes at anything in front of his face. He does exactly what the snake in the video does. Much like everyone else is stating I think he is just not adjusted and needs more time which is why I'm going to wait till Friday since I interrupted his adjustment period. Makes it difficult though because I will be leaving this Sunday for a trip for my job and won't be returning till the following Monday and I know no one else here will even try to interact with him. Should I attempt a feed this weekend or just wait till I return?

I would wait until you return. Feed it then and then give it two days to digest. After that take it slow with the handling again.

He will be fine, in fact he will probably enjoy the extra time alone. Remember that it's a snake not a dog and they can quite happily live their lives without handling. I would personally wait to feed, by the sounds of it he's pretty stressed and likely won't eat anyways.

Thank you for all your input, now that I've got everything squared away now and hopefully everything will be smooth sailing and if I get tagged a few times it happens. So I will probably leave him be until I get back also and avoid handling him just because I don't think the extra time will hurt him. When you say take it slow with handling any suggestions?

When its time to handle it make direct and deliberant movements. Once up and out just hold it and allow it to crawl around in yours hands if it will. It may just take hold of you and hang out inspecting everything as it uses you as a perch. If all goes well put it back in about 5 minutes and slowly increase the time out as the weeks go by. If it is being pissy and striking do not put it back until it has been calm and not made a strike for several minutes.

I noticed you said he's in a half log hide. I'd suggest getting him a more secure hide. Half logs leave 2 of his sides completely exposed. I'm willing to bet he feels like he needs to defend himself. I have a clown that was the same way. I had him in with half logs and he was always super defensive. I switched to these black plastic hides that a few different websites sell. Since then he's never struck at me

He has multiple hides this is just where he chooses to hide. On the back side of the log is a leaf hide spot so I don't think its that plus he has a plastic hide spot but doesn't go in there

There can be many reasons for a snake to prefer one hide over another. They will often choose the hide in the proper temperature over the hide that makes them feel more secure. Also the hide should be small enough to touch multiple sides of his body. They often feel safer in hides more on the smaller side over larger. Pics of your enclosure would help

Or sometimes they just like being weird. Sometimes my snake doesn't lay in a hide at all.

As a water bowl. Many breeders use this so they can toss the deli cups instead of cleaning hundreds of bowls
