Anyone's hubby/wife irritated with our hobby?
My husband DETESTS snakes/reptiles/rodents anything like that.. but "puts up" with my hobby/passion.. I have to *AHEM* do unspeakable favors for him to shut him the HECK up.. but i guess that means he loves me because he sleeps in the room with the snakes :D :snake: Anyways.. SORRY if that's TMI.. i'm bored at work and i'm sick of looking at excel.. :gj:

Re: Anyone's hubby/wife irritated with our hobby?
My wife is always looking around finding the best deals. She finds me 2-3 snakes a month to add to our collection.
-
My Boyfriend doesn't dislike the hobby... He did however tell me I couldn't complain about him buying new guns all the time after I picked up 3 new snakes a few weeks ago. :P

Hmm.. Sounds like it may tie in with the OP.

My husband isn't exactly thrilled with my snakes, but Ive found that getting him involved with them kind of helps. He's named half of my collection and I always ask his opinion on what I'm about to buy. He's also going to be the one who decides which male to put to my het albino girl (I'm leaning towards the calico pastel, but the cinnapin or lesser bee would be nice as well). The best trick to get them to enjoy the snakes more is to NEVER ask them to help clean!
He also acknowledges that as long as I have all these snakes plus my dog, I won't hound him about wanting a baby, so there's that.

Three years ago I was the one who didn't want another snake in the house. Now I'm the one doing the window-shopping for when my new group of Dumeril's boas is done with QT.

My wife got me started with snakes, then she says I ruined it for her because now its work LoL
-
My fiancé is going to help me pick out a new boa in May! He's not as obsessed with snakes as I am but he likes them.

I am lucky to have an amazing husband who not only puts up with me  but puts up with my hobby (snakes and rodents).
My husband does not like either snakes or rodents, he thought I was crazy when years ago I told him I wanted a snake, thought I was even crazier when I told him I wanted to breed them, but he supports me and encourage me to do what I like even if this is not is thing.
Being in a relationship does not mean you have to have everything in common, like or participate in everything your other significant does.....it means you need to be understanding, accepting and supportive :gj:

My hubby is WAY into sports.. ask him anything about sports and he's encylopedia.. i talk about wanting another snake and he rolls his eyes.. because he knows snakes for me come in multiples of two because *you can't just get one* :D (That's my philosophy anyways) I know if he had a real problem with it he would put his foot down.. my 3 year old daughter LOVES the snakes and all rodents.. she just can't figure out why the mice scurry away from her..

My wife isn't thrilled with snakes but ive got her to hold them and she goes with me to shows and she wants to pick out the next one(a banana). She's slowly coming around.

My husband loves the snakes. Especially Strudel, he's the one that named her, lol! It's just the cost of keeping and feeding more pets that he not too terribly keen on. He puts up with it though.

Good job on picking up some from Ben Renick! He's a great guy with awesome animals. You won't be disappointed!
My husband doesn't want anything to do with my snakes, but he built me an awesome "turtle table" for my little tortoise I got last year. And he's extremely proud and supportive of the work I do in the reptile world and the travels that sometimes takes me on. But he won't stay in the room if I get a snake out, and he's insistent that his home doesn't "turn into a zoo."
The fact that he's active duty military does help keep things on a practical level because moving, on average, every 18 months means I can't keep too many animals anyhow. But even so, I would never bring in more animals without consulting with him first, out of love and respect for him. He did promise me though, that when the time (finally!) comes that we retire and settle down someplace permanently, we'll buy a home with some extra land and he'll build me a "snake house" that I can keep anything in that I want. Don't know when that "someday" might be, but... :D

Re: Anyone's hubby/wife irritated with our hobby?
My girlfriend was less than pleased when i dove back into my hobby, she even told me i wasn't allowed to go to expos by myself anymore. (This made me break out in uncontrollable laughter complete with finger pointing,. This was after i came home from a show after dropping nearly a grand on new animals. BPs and bearded dragons)
I gave her a baby ball i got that day and now she is all on board after i showed her pictures of what i wanted to produce.

Judy, sounds like you have a keeper there.:)

Yes Judy please thank him for his service.. and i think we share dreams.. all i want is a devoted room for my babies and the feeders.. i broke the news to my husband last night that the BP's will get big enough to eat rats.. his response was "OH great!" he thinks they are creepy.. me on the other hand when i had my savannah monitor had two pet rats and i loved them.. we're going to be building a rat rack this weekend..
i wish i didn't have to build it.. i'd rather pay someone.. BUT atleast i can say that i built it for myself.. :) the design came off this forum.. did i mention i LOVE this place? :pc::date:

Thankfully my wife is into it, and my brother in law has a collection of his own. Can't complain.

Re: Anyone's hubby/wife irritated with our hobby?
My husband was the one that wanted one. I didn't. Then we got him and within the last 2.5 years we've ended up sharing the responsibility. Snakey is one of our pets. Much like our cats. Minus the fur. But he's so cool. He's been my responsibility while my husband is deployed and I think that's also added to it. Get your hubby one for Christmas hehe.

I had one snake when I met my fiancé. He was okay with me having one snake, and eventually was good about holding him. When we moved in with each other, I got two more snakes. I was fine with the three snakes that I had. Mike was also fine. Then work went sour. I always talked about if I won the lotto, that I would breed snakes. Mike suggested that we start out small, and build a small collection to eventually breed. The collection went to 7 after that, for we saved money to purchase 4 new ones at a show. Now 3 years later, our collection is up to 17, and this is our first year trying to breed. I am lucky to have a supportive fiancé, that helps out with the care of the snakes, and will tease me that now most of the snakes are my fault. Trust me, there are several in the collection that are his fault too. *winks*

My boyfriend had never really been one for animals until we started dating. I've got a horde of them. One day I said you know, I really want a ball python some day - and he said well why don't you just get one then? SO, here I am with my Argus! He's never had or handled one before I think, but he's totally open to the idea and likes Argus, so I consider that a plus. He's open for more snakes, too, so that will probably happen!

She's my ex-wife now..... lol

My boyfriend hates that I have so many snakes....he says one or two is fine but more than that is a hassle. He complains because I am not making money off of having so many haha so our deal was I will buy him swords or knives for every snake I buy. He is happier with it but still hates that we have 4 rats, 2 monitors, 2 dogs and a cat on top of all my ball pythons. Our daughter loves them all though.

Re: Anyone's hubby/wife irritated with our hobby?
My girl friend is scared of them. I have a Kenyan sand boa. And about 8 others on order. She won't come near it when it's out. How do you work them in to it? I had sand man before I ment her. And that was almost 2 years ago . Our son loves him I can't open the cage or he screams
