F10 Questions

Good afternoon all! I'm looking to start using F10 as a cleaner, what type do you guys use? There's two types of F10 on reptile basics and was just wondering if there is a huge difference between the two.

F10SC is not a cleanser, it is an antiseptic.

F10SCXD is both a cleanser and antiseptic.

Hey Monty, I'm in the same boat. I've been using a vinegar solution for cleaning, but I'm thinking about trying out some F10 cleaner. Still not sure which one though.

As bcr229 said, F10SC is a disinfectant only. The surface will need to be cleaned first, then you spray on the F10SC to disinfect it. The F10SC does not need to be rinsed or wiped off.

F10SCXD is a disinfectant plus detergent, so the surface will not need to be cleaned first. F10SCXD will clean AND disinfect. However, the surface does have to be rinsed afterward, to remove the detergent.

Also don't forget, if you read about someone nebulizing with "F10", it's the F10SC, not the F10SCXD.

"F10SCXD can be sprayed on and wiped off, no need to rinse. F10SCXD is a great regular cleaning tool with a surface cleaning formula."

I have zero experience with this cleaner, so I'm just double checking everything before ordering.

The Meadows Animal Health site (http://www.meadowsah.com/home/f10-en...-products.html), which has tons of info about the F10 products, says this about F10SCXD:

"Due to the cleaning detergent contained in F10^®SCXD, any food bowls or instruments that are to come in close contact with animals should be washed with clean water to ensure no soap residue is left."

I use Chlorhexadine which can be wiped off and you're ready to go. I keep a spray bottle of it, diluted of course, on hand at all times.

Same, im using Chlorhexadine too which I use to clean cages, utensils, wipe down cage tables, clean out water bowls and hides and even wash my hands with it inbetween handling animals.

So we have two conflicting statements, one that it should be rinsed and one that it doesn't need to be rinsed. My bigger question is how do you rinse a 4ft PVC cage with RHP and possibly UTH all hooked up on it. That sounds like a pain. I do full tear downs on my cages once a year and scrub each piece but I do regular substrate changes and wipe down cages with Chlorhexadine once a month.

So my F10SCXD came today via fed-ex.

The only downside is here in Ohio, its a lovely -7 without the wind chill.

I've been home all day, as have my father. Fed-ex decided in their infinite wisdom to leave it at my garage door at 1:59PM. So at 4:00PM when I went out to shovel the drive it was there, and promptly frozen solid.

I've got it siting in an empty tub right over heat tape set for 86, with it being frozen and then thawed out; does this screw with the concentrate? Does it make it less effective with it being frozen then slowly thawed out?

That is a really good question. I would call any help line number for the company I could find and ask them about it.

I ended up ordering both cleaners. I'll try them out and post my reviews.

Thanks, I was going to ask the same question as saw both products on Reptile Basics. I ended up ordering both. I'll use the F10SC in a fogger for treatment of URI, and the F10SCXD for general cleaning and sanitizing of my cages and tubs.

I do know that there is warning note on Reptile Basics that the F10SCXD not be used in a fogger.
