I think Mosi is a male, and MacWins probably is too, cus at 6months mosi was around 2' and Jase, yours is probably a female, and they are larger.

I got Apache in March '04. Here's a comparison pic comparing then, with September of this year. Hasn't he gotten huge? :) He is just around 4 feet in length now. I love him to pieces. :)

She refers to him as a male and if I'm not mistaken he has been sexed.

You know what.. I am starting to wonder myself. The person I got him from said he had been sexed, but I believe that it was just by the popping method (a method I do not recommend doing.) I am seriously wondering if "he" is female, because of the rapid growth rate. I only feed him one rat hopper a week.
If he is a she, I will be delighted!

Yea, because he is like the same age as Mosi, and Mosi hasn't been sexed. But I lilke to think Mosi is a male, because I see "spurs" and he is pretty small still.

The spurs thing is in no way valid for judging the sex of a snake, my female BCI has spurs. As well as a couple of my breeder female BPs. Honestly, the only way to accurately check is to have someone who knows what their doing sex the snake for you.

But by the growth rate, i'd assume that you're BCI is definitely a male, if he's 9 months old and still under 3ft

My confirmed male BCI is just 2 days shy of being 7 months old, he is just around 28 inches long.

Im getting one soon. Its an 8 foot red tail BCI. Male, around 20-30 pounds. I trust the guy im getting it from. He said its a big baby doll. Never has struck or attempted to stike at him or anything. He also said that if I didn't like him when i got him, I can send it back for a return or trade. Hes a darker one and very pretty. I will get pics up soon, but after i get permisson from him. hes only 150 dollars. I CANT WAIT!!

Yeah Jay is a boy otherwise I would have named him Jane.
I had him sexed when I got him.

See raising it is another thing. If you don't handle them enough when their young, then they're going to be mean when they get older. You don't want a mean 9 foot boa wraped around your neck do you? This way, im positive that its tame and easy to handle. WHen they're young, they tend to be quite nippy. My mom would freak out and make me get rid of it, if it were to strike at her.

Are guyanas BCIs? Do they get the same length and have the same care requirements as colombians?

    Wooden Cage Heat?
    No, they are BCC's

They get much bigger. As far as care, i think its pretty much the same, youll need a larger cage though ;)

doug , do you house your big boa in the container in the third picture ? it looks a little cramped :?

Why do you not recommend popping? Is that just with boa's or do you not recommend it for all snakes?

    HI,
SOmeone asked about the Guyana Caging so here its is,
I had it made for them its a duplex and has formica interior and russian birch plywood exterior.

    http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/Do...s/fc7bb695.jpg

It has two 100 watt chee's tope shelf that shine thru a opening to the bottom cage and two under the shelf heat mats.

    http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/Do...ting.sized.jpg

Here's one of the infared heat matts under the shelf there's two total.

    http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/Do...loor.sized.jpg

the cage sitting on top is where my hog island lives it 2ft deep by 6 ft long.

    http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/Do...ming.sized.jpg

when I feed the Guyana I use a feed box for the male so they arenot together for feeding, after they eat sometimes the male stay in the feed box in the cage overnight and he had a visitor one nite they were all crammed in that little box together ( getting chummy i hope ) here's the new feed box for the male it fits in the cage .

    http://www.redtailboas.com/albums/Do...s/P1001198.jpg

here's a typical feeding day with the male in his box with a rabbit and missy holley is waiting for me to put her rabbit on the floor of the cage one must be very carefull when doing this..
