Animal Plastics cage with background?

Because the manufacturer of my favorite snake cages (Pro-Line) has decided to pursue other reptile related endeavors and close his cage shop, I'm opening up to new caging ideas. I've long liked the look, and positive feedback AP cages come with. The cage sizes and customer service provided make the possibility of a purchase even more promising.


I will eventually be in the market for a 48" x 24" x 24" for my growing coastal carpet python. I keep a limited amount of snakes (3) and enjoy display cages that look nice and clean up easily.

Having a taller cage with a fairly active python can be a real showpiece if it's equipped properly. My boa constrictor has a 48 x 30" x 20" Pro-Line with a background and perches that I absolutely love.

I would like to outfit the AP cage in a similar fashion, but have noticed the rear venting is not placed in a "background friendly" area.

Has anybody successfully mounted a background like the one I have shown above in one of the AP units?

Is there an option to have the vents toward the rear of the cage on the side panels?

While I'm at it, what do most folks use for perches? Does AP have them as an accessory? I didn't locate them on the website.

I've gotta bump this thread already. I'm specifically looking at the T-12 or possibly the T-20.

Does anybody here own one? If you don't have a background, how about perches?

Maybe I'll simply e-mail AP, but a few experiences/tips from users would be nice.

you can call Ali and speak to them about it. they are really good aboutt customizing the way you want it.

I bought that from Constrictors NW same operation that made Pro-Line. He will still carry accessories and other stuff, but as of right now he is taking a break from cage making.

There is a main manufacturer that he gets the backgrounds from but the name of the place escapes me. I'd buy from Ed any day!

When I talked to Ali about a T25, the shipping was a killer. To ship to Washington State would have cost me $227. kind of sucks Ed quit as I was gonna add another 48x23x14 to my existing one to make my boa an 8ft cage. Now I might be stuck sucking up the freight to ship a 6ft cage for her when she gets bigger http://ball-pythons.net/forums/image...cOXWuvoofv.png But it is nice as its the 72x30x18. I have heard good things about AP cages and since Ed is done, that narrows it down for me, I'll be getting an AP T10 for my little pied ball python girl.

As for perches, its easy enough to make your own. Just buy the closest rod hanger ends, the U shaped ones. Then put a screw from the outside of the cage through into the holder. Then just cut the perches the right length and bam your set for your carpet.

Look at the T-13! I'm looking at the T-12 for the carpet. I'm totally bummed Ed stopped the caging biz but it is what it is, and I like the AP's for a good looking alternative.

Thanks for the closet rod idea. I think I'll be just fine, I just hope the plastic wipes out like the Pro-Lines.

I am very interested in hearing what you find out, Gio. You and I have the same preferences in caging, except that I preferred the white prolines!

I'm pretty crushed about it. I'm hoping to possibly find a used proline if I ever find anyone selling.

I believe the backgrounds are from Universal Rocks.

That's what I got right now, a white 48x23x14 Pro-Line. Works good and my boa loves it as I usually just leave the door open and she sits with just her head on the litter dam for hours or she will curl up half on and half off the litter dam with her head on top just looking outside.

An yeah Gio, I checked those out but they are still 48" long. I want something at least 5ft long. I wish I would have snagged up one of those 5ft cages Ed made for a little bit. My BCI girl likes to stretch out, I usually take her out at least once a day and she loves to stetch out on the bed or sit on the headboard looking at the floor lol. I figure I got time as the Pro-Line now doesn't seem too cramped for her and like I said, she gets out a lot. Maybe Ed will start making cages again by the time I get around to upgrading hers. Also let me know how that T12 works for your carpet as I was eyeballing the caramel coastal/IJ baby that Ed is selling. I just cant make up my mind on what I want next. So many choices on my list.....GTP, carpets, lavender or albino or enchi firefly ball pythons. Ugh :)

AP can move the vents around if you want them to. I'm not sure if they would charge for that, but from my experience with them I would guess that they wouldn't.

Once the vents were moved it shouldn't be difficult to mount the background of your choice. I would probably try to do so before assembling the cage, or at least with the top of the cage off.

I have a perch in my carpet cage. I didn't have AP put one in, buy I'm sure they could. I decided to go with a DIY floor mounted perch made from PVC pipe and PVC fittings. I find that they are easier to correctly size and upgrade as needed, as well as clean.

Gio you had pretty much sold me on Pro-Line cages as well through other posts... then to find out he is not making them anymore felt like I was back to square one and AP was also my second choice... I like the look of the backgrounds so I am interested where you would move the vents to in AP cage? Also wondered how these backgrounds are to keep clean etc? They look like they have a lot of detail and would take some time to get clean if there were to get smeared with something... or get water spots/deposits?
