    switching subsitrate
hello everyone. Sorry to bother you all again, but I am going to be on here a lot so I can have a healthy ball python.
I am considering switching to coconut subsitrate. Why? The main reason is to maintain moisture. I am going to clear out the aspen and replace it with the coconut. As well as replace some of the old stuff with some new things. I found some fungus on the log it came with and the other hideaway was too small. Got a spray bottle and a heating pad as well. I followed the instructions of the tank set up on the sticky note.
So, is this a good idea?
Let me know what you guys think and thanks again for the help.

I mix a little of the tropical jungle mix bedding from my local petsmart with the eco earth. 60/40 heavy on the eco earth. It compacts nicely. Easy cleanup. Looks oh so beautifully natural; and helps radiate the heat from your uth while making it more difficult for your snake to burrow down to the glass. Are you using a controller for your uth? I use a totally different method than everyone else so one of these kind folks could set you up with a controller i bet.

I use the Eco-earth(coconut), never though of mixing it like Kris does? Sounds like a good idea. The coconut takes a lot of mist and water to get the consistency right so it is not so sticky. That's why so members don't like it.

I've had great success with it in regards to easy clean up, long lasting and humidity control.

I may try the mix, next time when it comes time for a complete change.

I made the switch and its much more consistent with its humidity and temp.
I went to pet smart as well and found all I needed. I bought a big under heater and keep it constant. I keep the ceramic lamp on a controller though. I use a lamp dimmer and a thermostat. I use tin foil to help with insulation. Want to see it? I'm proud of how it turned out. That and I also disinfected the cage since it was used. Also- two new hide aways and a digital thermometer/hygrometer that has the time as well.

Cant wait to see! I made my top from some laminate flooring and a 1x2. The snake will be a little soiled for a day or so until it compacts. Doesnt take long

What difference did you find over just eco earth on it's own? How did you find the mix vs eco only effect humidity?

Good for you for taking the time out to really get an idea of what your snake needs. I'm sure she is very grateful to be in a proper setup. A big difference from what she was in 24 hours ago.
