Thanks Deborah. I agree, they are one of my favorite two gene morphs.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Good luck telling the fires and vanilla babies apart that might be hard lol

I was considering that. I believe the vanilla babies will have a more orange appearance as a hatchling. Only time will tell and it could be a good learning experience.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
I just thought I would add an update as it is a pretty good visual for how much a female glows as she builds towards ovulation. These are the same two animals (0.1 Vanilla and 1.0 Fire) you see locked in the original picture. In fact in the original photo, she is the one that is far right and appears to be just a shade darker than the male. Anyways, it is a pretty dramatic difference so I wanted to share.

Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Well I knew she was close but I didn't think she was that close. This and the picture in my last post above were both taken today, just about 7 hours apart. You can see how much she has swelled in that short time. Looking like I should have some eggs on the ground here in about 6 weeks.

Thanks for looking.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
YEP! I agree. Is this her first clutch? :D
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Yes. This is her first clutch. I'll be happy with 5 to 6 eggs and 2 VC's. My biggest concern is will I be able to distinguish the Vanilla from the Fire in the case of a single gene offspring?
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Well it's day 30 post PLS and still no eggs. She doesn't even look like she's uncomfortable yet which is a little discouraging. I guess I'm spoiled because my previous clutches have all been on day 27 or 28. Please stay tuned for further updates as this story develops. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

I sure hope they don't. I'm already checking a couple/few times a day. Can't imagine what it will be like if they go that long.

Thank you, me too.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
She finally decided to get with the program on day 33. There was nothing about 6:30 this morning and when I just checked on her about 10:00 I could see three pearly whites so far. Hard to see in the pic because she is covering them. I'll update once she is finished.

Please stay tuned.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
She ended up giving me 4 perfect eggs that weighed 390 grams total and all candled with strong veins.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic on the candled egg. It is difficult to get it focused in the dark. Hopefully we'll be seeing a Vanilla Cream poking its head out in about 60 days. Thanks for looking.

Yes. This is my first clutch that went longer than 28 days so I was getting a little impatient.

Gale
Thanks Gale. I was kind of worried about that. I think they are pretty decent specimens of the two morphs so I am hoping it will be fairly easy to distinguish one from the other. However, if the odds gods wanted to bestow 4 vanilla creams on me I wouldn't complain and it would remove any doubt.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Well it's late on day 59 and the first baby pipped in the last hour. The head is darker so not likely a Vanilla Cream but can't tell yet if it is a Vanilla, a Fire, or a Normal. Hopefully they will all be pipped in the morning and I'll shoot a pic then and post it.
Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Well so far only two have pipped and neither appear to be VC's. One is still in the egg and it's head is too dark. The other has crawled out and I think it may be a fire but I will wait until everything is out before committing to it since I have never hatched Fires or Vanillas before. Still have two more chances yet for the Vanilla Cream so fingers crossed. Here's a pic of the first one while we wait on the others.

Re: Vanilla Creamy Goodness
Well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed with the results. I know with only four eggs there aren't a lot of chances but the odds were the same (25%) for every possible combination in this clutch. I didn't hit any Vanilla Creams. I hit two single gene morphs (I think the bottom right may be Fire and the top right Vanilla) and two normal. Oh well, there's always next year. Once they shed I'll take some pictures of the two morphs and see if we can figure out with certainty what they are.

Thanks for coming along on the journey.
