    Looking into tub/rack system...
I'm tired of feeling like a rookie. My snake deserves better. She is in a wooden cage 36x12×13...bottom is turning black and sagging.
    My setup:
Wooden cage with ventilation on lid, and both sides
    Aspen bedding
Dome light with 50w red lamp
    Log hide
    Water dish
    2 fake plants

Not nearly good enough for decent husbandry. I want to switch her to a tub or rack system and FAST but I don't know how to do it and not get murdered by my MIL in the process. I don't even know where to start. I need a better setup for her that includes more humidity and security and correct temps.
Feedback is appreciated. I am taking my love for the scale babies to the next level!

How far off are your humidity/temps now? There may be solutions for that till you get your new setup.

I have no idea. Every time I try to bring home any form of measuring them I get screamed at. I've had enough. I want my snake to be comfortable and happy. I am on a budget however, so I basically need a tub that locks securely and can contain proper heat and humidity with the amount of space she needs to be happy.

Your MIL is freaking insane, man. Doesn't want to know temps? Humidity? Weights? Wants to feed them mice instead of rats so they'll "stay small"? At this point I'd call legit abuse (both to you AND the animals) :/

But anyway, a rack system is over kill for one snake, unless you're planning on getting more. They're designed so you can stack multiple tubs in a vertical space, saving room for people who keep more than just a couple. Also tubs are not an automatic fix. You're still going to need the right equipment to read, record and monitor temps and humidity. If she won't let you go out and buy them, try mail ordering from Ebay or Amazon. That wood viv does sound nasty and moldy though. If she won't let you keep it in a straight up plastic sterilite tub, try looking at plastic vivariums. Easier to keep clean than wood, holds heat and humidity better than open top glass aquariums, and displays your snake with a pretty, see-through plexiglass door.

I am taking on her wrath. Tell me the essentials I need to make a tub perfect and I'll get it as long as I don't break $100

Right on! Check out the basic tub set up thread (it's stickied in the bp husbandry forum). It should give you the run down on how the set up a tub correctly, and you should easily be able to fund it for under a 100. I'm setting up two from scratch for less than that right now.

I haven't used one, but I think other members that do say they use sphagnum moss, keep it consistently damp when the snake is going into shed, and then let it dry out in between.
