Help me with my collection (not selling)
OK So I just got started in the hobby and got bit by the bug. I just purchased 5 snakes and I am curious of their worth to compare to what I paid. I feel I got a good deal and in the end that is all that matters but more so id like to compare it to what I feel their worth to gauge my understanding of the marketplace. I AM NOT SELLING anything. These are family pets.

Bought these off a guy who basically neglected them. They were in a rack system with eco-earth that was BONE DRY and smelly. The Banana/Coral Glow likely has a resp infection and had eco earth in her mouth and has a vet appt tomorrow.

I paid 600 for everything and I understand due to their neglect will likely have medical bills in the future and that is fine. I saved a life and my kids like them. I changed all substrate got the humidity where it needed to be and disinfected everything. If there is anything else I should do please comment

    (1) Rack System Home Made holds 8 tubs
    (1) Scale and other misc supplies, water bowls hides etc
    Vivarian 300 Thermostat
Flex watt on all of the racking where it needs to be
    (4) tubs

    1.0 Piebald ~1200g
0.1 Het Piebald (possibly pregnant I see lumps in her stomach and he has been locking the 2 together) since she is pregnant I have limited me touching her thus no weight but she is BIG
    0.1 Pewter ~840g
    0.1 Lesser ~800g
1.0 Banana or Coral Glow(picture below I cannot tell the difference) ~900g

Also being new I am still learning good morph combos. What would be some youd suggest to get to compliment my collection?

Thank you. (the photos are from the seller you can see how dry the eco earth is)

It looks like a nice collection. Besides getting the one snake checked out for a possible Respiratory Infection, it seems that you may have a possible gravid female. I would recommend reading up on some of the threads in the "Breeding" section to prepare for a potentail clutch of eggs. Your options are pretty much to buy/build your own incubator, possibly find a breeder near you who might be willing to help out, or letting her maternally incubate the eggs. Either way, you should have a plan in place. Good Luck... :gj:

woot looks like I will be a daddy, do they make ITS A SNAKE! cigars? I am not handy at all so I will just shell out the 150ish for an incubator especially since these are piebalds seems worth the investment. any recommendations?

um...unless the one snake has that rare RI, I'd say you made out like a bandit.. From everything listed you could have paid 3-4 times as much and it would still be a good deal. If the female is prego that's a bonus. Also, if you want to sell me one of those pied babies for an exceptionally low price, we could both celebrate  ...lol Congrats on the purchase. Can't wait to see pics of those babies!

here is a recent photo. the male is usually always on top of her like he is protecting her. I dont know,

I feel my eco earth is a bit too damp but I am not sure. after seeing it bone dry I went a lil overboard I think. I squeezed it out best i could.apologies for the big size

i cant figure out how to edit my post lol but that eco earth was naturally darker then the other stuff I had. when I got them it was late at night and I had to get what I could with what I had and took from my hermit crabs(long gone) and rinsed it thoroughly and it was middle level they nevr borrowed that deep. I still think its too damp

plus the moron never put air holes in the tub(1 of the 4). GF was like how do they breathe and im like thru the air holes and shes like what holes? and im like OMG WTF

Is the female that the Pied male is in with in that picture the same female that you think is pregnant?

Yea shes a 100% het pied knocked up by the pied male. She shows signs of being gravid. Doesnt move. Ever. Lumps on her belly. So i gotta start looking at incubators BUT the dude didnt take care of them so i wouldnt be surprised from the initial stress that she drops some slugs. Hopefully not.

And i i got back from Vet. Coral glow has an RI and got injections every 3 days for a while. Other then that. No mites and healthy and active and in shed.

But it will not take F/T. None will since dude only fed live and I hate rodents. GF is gonna have to feed it while i run around screaming for joy

Any tips to get them on FT?

Male banana alone at that size would be $500 so yes considering everything you got a great deal so long of course the animals are problem free.

If she's already gravid, I would separate the two of them to keep both of them from being stressed or injured. He's not protecting her, he's competing with her for the warmest spot in the enclosure (the snake on the bottom is winning). They're solitary animals. The only time they ever come together in the wild is to breed.

Other than that, I think this bunch was a steal! Congratulations!

ive separated them and she took a small rat without hesitation. however i cannot get the other 4 to feed. previous owner fed only live and my gf went to go get live rats but had them kill them for her and 4 of them did not want it dead. previous owner stated he only fed alive. gonna wait a day AND later at night

and my numbers got reversed the banana is 650g not 900. got confused. weighed him at the vet today.

I paid $550 for 3 snakes; Male Bumblebee (with some other potential gene in there), Female Lesser Yellowbelly, and Female Lesser. Along with that came a vision cage and a 15g glass tank with a top and some other little things. I got a custom rack to hold 6 snakes with heat cable, a VE-100 thermostat, tubs, and 2 drawers for $380. So you got a smokin deal. If one of those pied babies wants to make it's way to me, just let me know. Where do you live btw?

I'd say you got a great deal. Just get that ri treated and focus on getting their husbandry 100% and get them feeding. Switching from live to f/t can be difficult if they've been on live all their lives but isn't impossible. If I were in your position I'd feed live and make sure they all eat consistently before attempting the switch. That "screaming around for joy while my girlfriend feeds them" comment was pretty funny but the most important thing is to get them all eating. You might have to touch a live rat or two lol wish you the best with them.

Sounds like she is not gravid, maybe building...

I'm not sure. Ive watched quite a few videos. What i gathered was signs of gravid. Lumps in belly, doesnt move, she is capable if moving but prefers to just chill and her head is out. So i dont think its from stress. The end of her tail the last 1/3 of her body is very big. From what I saw in videos they said that was another sign. Maybe i misunderstood? Not sure. I'll try to get a pic of her stretched out hanging her to get better visual of lumps

She's not Gravid until she ovulates...They rarely eat after ovy...maybe she is willing to eat after ovy if she has not been fed properly.

not sure. I am gonna take more pics tonight after work if I can get her to relax and get a pic of her stretched out. below is a pic last night when she ate. the guy told me she ate last week but I honestly cant take anything he says for fact as he was lazy enough not to give them water for well over a day from the pics he sent me and the way I picked them up the bowls were bone dry and that was a 24hour difference in time so who knows. all I know is she took the freshly killed rather quickly. this is my first possibly pregnant snake so im going off of pictures. I am taking her to vet on my next day off just to get her checked out as well as the other 3. Could the lumps im seeing be compaction? I dont know the time of her last bowel movement

What you have right there is a chunky monkey. And definitely building. Pretty close to ovulation if I had to guess, follicles most likely being upwards of 30-35 mm if you can't feel them anymore. Try not to handle her too much, you don't want to stress out a preggo momma😊 congrats!

P.s: I feel like I remember reading something about a pre ovulation shed, but I might be imagining it. Keep a close eye out for an ovy any day now

i read the same thing about a pre ovy shed but I thought they needed tail suck with that, which she doesnt have. I havent handled her much. about 5 minutes over 3 days

First off congrats to you for taking these animals and knowing you were going to have to vet them! Not many people do that. Now a few things. Make sure your heat is on point to really reduce stress and bring these snakes back to health, also to help the CG with the RI fight it off. Keep an eye on everything else as they may be sick as well (he could have cross contaminated due to carelessness) I'd also give them a few days before trying to feed again. You want them to calm down and let them adjust before possibly stressing them with live food. Another thing I would like into is nebulizing (with F10 I believe) the CG with RI maybe it'll help cure him sooner. Other than that, I think you're doing a great job.

Btw Banana and CG are the same thing, don't let anyone tell you different. Use whatever name you like. Banana or CG, just stick to one LOL.

Yea I have looked into fogging with the f10 solution. was gonna check around for foggers. I believe I saw the post here from the guy whos parents were vets describing what to do.

as for the husbandry end of things. everything seems to be pretty on point. I have the thermostat probe on middle rack. and have checked the tubs for temp. bought a infrared temp gun but its garbage and not accurate. Ive increased the size of the possibly pregnant het pied from the 28qt she came in to 41qt because she is 1900g and working on finding tubs(41qt) that will fit this rack for the other pythons as one is 1200g 1100g 900g and 660g(weights i posted earlier were from the seller and were inaccurate) the 900 and 600 i assume can stay in the 28qt for a bit longer but id like to get the 1200g male and 1100g female into bigger tubs. might go with 34qt temporarily until I can find a 41 that fits the dimensions I need for this homemade rack.

Id possibly take the rest to the vet as IF he had a RI, and it was that developed in the same rack, they may have it aswell. You could do anything from
F-10 + Fogger, to the shots that you give every 3 days. Would hate to see them hide their developed RI's. (If you haven't of course) But the f-10 + Fogging could be a good precaution, Without introducing Antibiotics.

Not sure if this was mentioned but the eco earth has to go. This is not a good substrate for a ball python. Use a mold resistant wood or paper for better results.
