My New BP Plan!!!!

Hey, well, I did want a blood python, but I decided I would rather have another BP. So, they have a 3ft. long tame BP at the petshop, and it eats well, and i know it is tame because when they got cupid out of the tank they had to move it, because they were all snuggled up together! It’s 99$,
So my plan, is to get that snake, and put it in the 80gal. Then, I am done with snakes for a while (we’ll see). And I want o get and AFTG. Then, I know the snakes I have will eat frozen thawed, but if this one will I am going to buy from rodentpro.com and going to get 25 small rats, 15 weanling mice, and 25 adult mice. Does this sound like a good plan? I wonder how much it would cost. I’ll see. Tell me what you think of my plan.

What are you aiming to put in that 80 gal? Be forewarned shipping for the rodent order will run an appreciable amount (but for stocking up on small feeders you just cannot beat it - less bang for your buck on small rats and larger as they go kind of quick). Good luck there!

The 3ft. BP goes in the 80gal. yea, I figured the shipping would cost me, but atleast im not paying 8.00$ a small rat from the petshop i go to!

Is it just me, or is an 80 gallon big for a ball python?

Um...why don't you just save your money & get the animal you want, instead of just buying "whatever" fits into your budget?

yea i agree with KLG.If you want a blood,you get a blood!ya never know,maybe you will be like KLG and love them!

on the frozen topic, it sounds good. i buy from rodent pro i buy a full box load about a 3-4 month supply for me. that saves on shipping because the box is full. you'll pay the same shipping on a half empty box. i'd wait and get what you want, don't let the only thing in your local store decide what to get. check online you can get good deals breeder direct. check your local herp society or animal rescue they may have larger snakes that someone does not want anymore. on a rescue animal a vet check should be in order.

I also agree with KLG. I'm not saying you buy anything that looks neat at the moment...as long as you can afford it but it kinda comes across that way. I also don't believe in buying my way into someones favor...be it a pet shop or just another human. Every pet store grosly over prices their animals...they have to to make a profit. Think about what you really want, save your money and look around...even if it means having a better quality animal(s) shipped to you.

My parents won't let me buy from breeders. And I decided I don't want to save up 140$ when by the time I get it it will be sold, and I decided I don't want the Blood, and that I would rather have a big BP because I like big snakes. I just decided I didn't, and it was over my budget anyway. I am getting what I want. We aren't "buying our way into someones favor" maybe I forgot to put that we have known this guuy for 10years, and given him pets to sell, bought pets, and I have one all the coloring contest they have(lol that doesn't make a difference) But I know he is willing to get rid of them. And I get 5$ an A, so if I get all A's thats 30$ a report card, then in 9 weeks I will have enough money to get it. And thats even if he doens't give us a discount.

A BP this size will be fine in an 80gal. I just have to make sure it will eat f/t. I know it eats, because they have feding charts stuck to the cage and they write when they eat. (I do that too ) I now what I really want, and it is the big ball python.

That is quite steep....But....I pay $3.99 for a small live rat ...get this....and pay $4.00 for a frozen one from my pet store. I allways thought the frozen ones would be less....But hey, Im from a backwards part of the world.

One local store is advertising "A RAT SHORTAGE" and charging $3.99 a pop for smalls. Oddly another local store is baffled by the proclamation that there's a shortage and still sells the smalls for $1.99 (and both of these are easily twice the weight of the RodentPro designated small size).

80 Gals may be enormous. Might be really cool to get something communal (no not snakes) set up in there. Whatever your decision I think you oughta start with the animal and address it with an enclosure rather than the opposite, and at any rate researchign your options are your best friend. Make your parents take you to a herp show, maybe!

Bad plan. If $31 makes enough of a difference to make or break your budget, I would do a lot more saving before buying anything at all, be it the blood python or ball python. What happens if you need to make a trip to the vet? The ball python you already have will grow "big" soon enough... these are pets that last 30 years and they're only small for at most 3 of them, so you need to look at the big picture. Not to mention, your BCI should get more than big enough for you in a few years. Reptiles can be addictive, and we can tend to want more and more of them, but they are a long term committment. You should really think carefully of what each acquisition will mean to you, so you can be sure you won't be wanting to get rid of it a few years down the road. Since you already have a ball python, I would think a blood python would be more rewarding. Either way, I don't think you should be buying anything right now... the costs of a reptile are much more than just the purchase price and it sounds like you just don't have the budget for any new acquisitions.
