Does Your Female Eat When She's Building?
hi guys,

got a het caramel project working on, im sure my female is building as she has that glow and shes bigger than the usual. yesterday a gave her a medium sized rat and she ate it. i was wondering, is it normal for a female "building" follicles to still feed?

Does Your Female Eat When She's "Building"?

Yes, mine eat very well while they are building. They stop eating a few weeks before ovulation.

Some do some don't but the majority will

I have females who stop eating when they are starting to be paired, some stop eating a few weeks before ovy, some stop right when they ovulate and I even had some (rare) eating after ovy.

Just depends on the animal.

We've had one that went off a couple weeks before ovulation both times she laid for us, and we have one right now who has been off for a couple months and is glowing so bright she looks like a fire but hasn't ovulated yet. When it comes to BP's, normal is a somewhat subjective term.

thanks for the tips.

does it indicate a high percentage of success that your female will breed if she glows?

Breeding ball pythons is all about waiting :)...wait until they are old/big enough...waiting for them to breed...waiting for ovulations...waiting for eggs...waiting for them to hatch...

Just thought I'd add a couple comparative pics of our girl for reference. Here is the girl soaking and in her usual state of colors.

Here she is glowing. You can see how much brighter her head is and the pronounced blushing that isn't apparent in the bowl photo.

It's a pretty dramatic difference.
