    Big snakes take big poops
Last week I unexpectedly acquired a 4ft+ ball python. She was less of a rescue and more the girl just couldn't have her at her new house.but I was happy to help and now we have are new "baby"
she took no time to get used to us. She has alway lived in the living room and very used to all the people traffic and she took her first lrg live rat Friday. I was starting to worry though because she hasn't peed or pooped at all for a week now. But today I set her on my bed to take in some sun and not 5 mins later a loud squishy fart sound and I knew what she had just done all over my bed! What a mess! Soak through to the sheets so gross!
So there is a question after my gross story do ball pythons get constapated? How often does a little older full grown snake go? I'm always cleaning up after my little guys and girl like every day I seem to be changing their paper towels

    hey,

    good luck cleaning ;)

    but to your questions,

yes they can get constipated but that was probably not happening to your new snake, as the get bigger they go less frequent, some of them even only go after a shed.

but you can't tease us like this! please post a picture of her :D

Can they be constipated? Yes but it is a rare occurrence and it will be obvious if it happens.

There is no schedule ti is related to food intake (how big of a prey and how often) and the animal itself, it can be weekly if you feed a lot or once a month or even more if you feed less.

Keep in mind that adult's metabolism is slower they also do not need a huge food intake to thrive, because they can eat larger meal or do so often does not mean they need to.

If you didnt like that mess..........
    Imagin feeding a hairless.:O
Looks like a can of brown spray paint exploded.

As far as a schedule, they vary just like you and I are not on the same schedule.
As long as they are hydrated they are good to go.

God I'd hate to imagine a retic crap. My red tail boa is bad enough. She leaves half a chocolate hot dog every 2-3 weeks which thanks to aspen isn't too bad to spot clean.

BPs are nocturnal, what is this "take in some sun" thing?

Geez I'm glad I generally don't eat hot dogs. Horrible mental image there. And yes, it can be staggering what comes out the back end of our snakes sometimes. I have a blood python, and when he finally goes, you'd swear my 90+lb rott got in there and unloaded. Heck, even some of the balls sometimes make me wonder where it all came from. As for retic poops, I would assume them to be close to the same as burm poops. Can't even flush that, has to go out to the mulch pile and be out of the reach of the dogs.

I think if a ball is outta the cage for some cleaning or feeding a little uv rays can't hurt? They definitely don't shy away from a beam of sunshine for me

    O geez
The snake thinks my bed is its toilet? I took her out again to chill and stretch out on my bed and not 5 min later she took a huge dump right at the foot of my bed like she did last week!
I'm wondering is it the exercise and free movement on the bed as oposed being still in her enclosure?

Could be, sometimes exercise gets things moving. Perhaps you should limit her "bed times" to the 3-4 days following dump day.

I am no expert on snake poops lol but I can usually tell when my ball are close to going by the bulge that builds up near the tail end. You might what to try checking next time if you aren't doing that already. It could save you from more accidents on your bed.
