    Red scales
I have recently been seeing red spots on the scales of my ball python and I am wondering what it is.

Could you post a pic of your setup? I'm not an expert when it comes to this kind of thing but could maybe be a burn or scale rot.

Well I don't see how it could be a burn if you're not using a UTH, you need to get your gauges fixed ASAP, and what temp is at 80?

I would advise replacing all the substrate with paper towels for
    Now keep everytning clean.. Hopefully
Someone more experienced in burns/scale rot can weigh in.

What size viv is that? And how old is your BP

My BP is 4 years and 5 months old and the viv is 3 ft he is just over 3 ft long, my viv is above my lizard cage and the hide is above the light for him will that affect it

    Check this out:
    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ius)-Caresheet

BUT for now.. try replacing the substrate with paper towels.. keep it extremely clean buy a humidity gauge ASAP.. make sure the humidity is between 40-50%
the warm side should be 88-90, hot spot of 90-92.. cool side from 82-86f.

    Re: Red scales
Yeah sorry I have just noticed you don't have a guard on your bulb so that's a possibility of a burn

    Re: Red scales
Even with a guard that will probably be too hot.

    Re: Red scales
If you had the glass holder yes, otherwise no you shouldn't just put a heat mat in viv many problems.. Water damage etc.

    Re: Red scales
So if I get a glass holder and heat mat I can just keep my light off and just put the heat mat and glass thing right under the he so the hid is on top of it

    Re: Red scales
A heat mat doesn't heat anything else but what it touches so in a 3ft viv I think you would need another heat source, I have a ceramic heat emitter along with a heat mat
