1 month no shed?
I got my first BP about a month ago. I have been feeding 1 adult mouse every 5 or 6 days. He eats great and poops once in a while but hasn't shed yet. I would rather feed rats but I livhttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...890de817e9.jpge in STL and can't find anywhere other than Petco with healthy rodents. It's either adult mice or huge rats. I don't have a scale but am posting a pic of him with a DVD case to get an idea of size. He seems bigger but hasn't shed. So do you guys think an adult mouse enough? How often do Ur balls shed?http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...ea8dcc4bda.jpg

Re: 1 month no shed?
Adult mouse seems like a good size, he will shed when he needs to shed 😊 nothing to worry about. He's very pretty by the way! Firefly morph?

Re: 1 month no shed?
I thought so I just thought it would have happened by now. Yes he's a firefly and thank you. When I went to an expo he really stood out. I'm new to this and didn't really know what to look for in a decent morph but his colors just popped. I can't wait to get a pic right after a shed.

Re: 1 month no shed?
He's a gorgeous firefly :) and I agree with Sammie, he will shed eventually. Mine usually shed every 50-60 days or so, and my adult male takes even longer than that sometimes. So don't worry [emoji4]

Never...haha :rofl:Does he show a slight bulge after feeding? If not you may want to try 2 mice. He is a looker though. Nice pick up!

Re: 1 month no shed?
Yea it's slight. First time I fed him I was kinda freaking out thinkin it was too big lol. There necks just sooo skinny.

Yeah, I really didn't care for the way they looked at first. My wife had to have this albino she found on craigslist though. It was all down hill from there. Now we have 19, and 2 of them are breeding.

Re: 1 month no shed?
My boy Akeda is starting his second shed ever. His first one ended on October 22nd. If you're seeing dull coloration on his body, usually that means that he's getting ready to shed. I noticed it like a week and a half ago, and today is the first that i've noticed that his eyes are turning blue.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Hes very pretty. I'm hoping our first shed together goes good. I guess that's the real test. I'll know whether I'm doin this right.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Prec, my normal girl is almost 8 months and has slowed down her shedding dramatically. It was like a month but last time was back in October. She went blue and basically hid away for a week finally coming out and shedding immediately. She just turned blue yesterday after staying in her hot hide with her damp miss since Saturday. I guess she will reappear when she's ready but I sure miss her! Is this normal?

Coley, what a gorgeous boy you have!!!
My adult also sheds very consistently every 50-60 days.

Re: 1 month no shed?
I was worried about the same issue recently. I have a juvenile male, about 4 months old. He shed with me for the first time on September 29th. About a week and a half ago I was starting to get concerned because I had read that young snakes shed about every 4-6 weeks. The exact time line does depend on genetics, age, feeding amount, etc...but it seemed like since he has always eaten regularly and the correct size he had gone too long with no shed. Just as I was getting to the point of getting on here and posting, I noticed his belly was slightly pink. Sure enough about 5 days later his eyes were cloudy. Check and see if you notice any pink coloration around his belly area. The dark scales at the very sides of the body will also start to look milky first. You will also notice that closer to shed they will have almost baggy skin, there will be more folds than usual and this is particularly noticeable at the neck right behind the jaw. When they turn their head the skin will have a pinched area that sticks out. It can be subtle if you don't know what to look for. If you have never been through a shed with him before don't be concerned when the eyes go cloudy, I am still always amazed to see him in that phase because it is just so dramatic looking. If I hadn't known better I probably would have thought he had come down with some terrible illness lol. Here is a picture of Shesha's pink belly before his first shed with me for comparison. Note the belly shade and general discoloration.

For comparison this is his normal coloration.

Great description Ki :gj:

Re: 1 month no shed?
Wow those pics are great. Better than the comparison pics in the actual problem shedding posts. I guess he'll just do it when he's ready. I got him from Renick Reptiles at an expo and since day one he's been eating and pooping solid. Seems super healthy.

Re: 1 month no shed?
If you're in St. Louis which is what I'm guessing STL is. I live in Alton, IL and I go down to a place in Fairview Heights called the Tye-dyed Iguana. Their prices are pretty good for feeders. I buy live and frozen from them. If you have anymore questions, let me know. I have 7 Ball Pythons and a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, so I buy a couple different sized mice and rats.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Thanks definitely wanna find someplace else. Petco sucks. There baby balls have horrible sheds and had literally 0% humidity. Plus 4 bucks a mouse is ridiculous.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Oh you can also order from Rodent Pro if you so choose to. You can pick up your order at the St. Louis Reptile Shows. They are usually once a month at the Double Tree Hotel off of Page.

Re: 1 month no shed?
That's where I bought the snake at actually. Didn't realize they were once a month though. Ill have to look into that

Re: 1 month no shed?
Hey, I live in STL as well, try Tropical World Pets. That's where I get all my feeders from. It's a fish and reptile shop on Watson.

Re: 1 month no shed?
That's another place I knew about but thought they only carried fish. I'll have to check them out next time I'm down there. I went to Exotic Amphibians and Reptiles on Lemay Ferry and bought two mice. Thank God I waited till the next day to feed bc one was so sick it couldn't move by morning. The other could barely keep eyes opened. I quarantined the surviving mouse and noticed hair loss and black specks... Mites. So I called and the manager wasn't in and a young sales girl that didn't know any better admitted they knew about the mites and STILL sold sick rodents. Manager did call me back and proceed to tell me mites were expected and blah blah blah. Offered me a new mouse. Ha that's funny like I'd want any other creature of any kind from them. I read reviews after that and other ppl have saw numerous dead reptiles in with live ones. I saw one cage like that but mostly they just looked filthy. Horrible place. Animals all look pretty bad actually.
-
Re: 1 month no shed?
Oh the other mouse died 2 weeks later and the thermostat I bought from them (which was the only reason I went there in the first place) didn't even work. I didn't even remember to mention that to the manager bc I was so dumbfounded at the bs coming out of his mouth. Smh

Re: 1 month no shed?
I was totally put off by EARC. It smells horrible in there. Its super cluttered and dirty. Everything in that store is dirty and disgusting, enclosures are disgusting, it's just gross. The animals look miserable. I will never go in there again and I warn all my friends to never go either. Just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Ikr. I can't believe they stay in business. I was extremely new to reptilles but knew that place was bad. Some snakes had prominent backbones, no hide, horrible sheds, and some were soaking. I didn't know at the time but I'm sure they had mites as well. The owner had the lil high school girl thinking she couldn't bring anything home to her own reptiles. Not too mention rodents. I had to explain to her that yes rodent and reptile mites are different but they will catch rides on you or another animal. He had her believing they would only stick to animals and that it's perfectly safe to handle and feed sick rodents to these snakes. After I held the mitey mouse I broke out in a rash. I'm not allergic to mice. I know those mites bit me. I'm sure they jumped right off but still. I'll never feed Wiz a sick nasty mouse. That place needs to be shut down before they sell some ibd snakes and kill someone's whole collection. Owner said if I buy snakes I should expect to buy one with mites eventually bc it's normal and common. Lhh really? Maybe normal if I bought from YOU!

Re: 1 month no shed?
Up until a few years ago Tropical World Pets was a fish specialty shop IIRC, but they carry reptiles & reptile supplies now as well. The employees seem to be pretty knowledgeable, and the animals were healthy from what I could tell. Of course, I'm a little short, so I couldn't see in all of the cages, haha.
I've never heard of the place you mentioned, and I'm glad I haven't... I'd have a few choice words for them.

Re: 1 month no shed?
It's pretty funny. Now that he's ACTUALLY about to shed there is no question whether or not his eyes look dull. I guess I was paranoid. There is really no doubt. I feel silly cause now it's obvious.

Re: 1 month no shed?
Hes sooo faded. I think maybe handling him often has gained his trust or maybe he's just super chill. He didn't his or strike when I took him out like i expected. Is this considered being in the "blue"? It looks like it wouldn't be too easy to see through that.
