    Jasmine the gtp
I just got my first gtp rescue. She is roughly 6 feet long and absolutely puppy dog tame.

She came with close to 30 mites we are treating now and a pretty bad burn scar on her side. I sprayed her down and soaked her as pet my vet and also sterilized the viv and have her on paper towels. I haven't seen andy moving critters since. Hopefully we killed em all.

The scar seems to be yellow colored now as if she is changing back to a neonate color. Will this go back to green?

I can't believe someone let such a beautiful animal be abused that way.

Do you have a pic so we can have a better idea of what you are seeing?

Battling mites is usually a on going fight. Rarely do you get all of them right away, so don't freak if you see them again. Just be persistent. The way your describing the scar sounds like an old wounded that will most likely stay as is. But yeah pics always help.

I will try to get a better one tonight. She is now off the bedding and just on paper towels.

Here is the scar. Overall I think she is beautifully colored. She let me get her out tonight. Not even a hiss. I sprayed her viv with rid and let is air our for an hour and soaked her again. Only found one mite this time. Hopefully she will be well soon.

That scar appears to be healing pretty well and that is a good looking gtp. It may turn blue. My gtp was more of a rescue and the owner before me did some poor things and my guy had a bite mark on his head. It was already healed and shed but with every shed it gets a little lighter and it appears to have an end result of the pretty blues that these snakes can produce. This is an older pic of mine to give you an idea of how it looked. You can see that it was almost black but now it is much lighter and the majority of his snout and jaws are now blue with the scar being blue too.

Thanks KMG. Is there any advise you could give me? I'm new to chondros. is it ok to handle her once a week or should I just leave her? I let her out tonight for a while. Here's a pic of when I fist picked her up at the store. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...a563419f52.jpg

Mine is not very nice at night. He gets into hunt mode and anything that enters the cage becomes a target. He will even track shadows which says alot for their vision. However, during the day he is a perfect gentleman and I can handle him whenever I want except during the blue phase of a shed where he is kinda grumpy. I absolutely love to handle him and he is my favorite to take out. Each snake is different but mine tolerates me well and I can handle him often without any issues.

The only tip I can think of is when you get them off their perch. What I found works best is to spin him over where he is coiled facing the floor. I keep my hand on and under him as I do this and he will simply release into my hand and come out without a fuss. Trying to take them off the perch as they sit seems to make them grip and squeeze the bar and makes it more difficult to remove them without force which can be harmful to their delicate build. Spinning them over doesn't seem to cause this and instead seems to make them want to release to reposition but when they do they are in your hand and wrap it instead.

If you have anything specific let me know but that's all I can think of right now.

As for mites what is the best way to treat? I have been soaking her in a 16qt tub leaving an inch of air at the top for her head. It does have 6 holes in the lid as well. I put a drop of dawn in there to break up the waters surface tension. Should I do this every day?

I have only had mites once and that was on three blood pythons I ordered. I use Reptile Spray and was able to kill them in one treatment. I don't think I would be doing a daily soak. Are you still finding mites?

When you do soak any snake it is not advised to fill the tub with that much water. Usually it is recommended to have the water only deep enough to be 1/2 to 3/4 up the way of the snakes body.

I've had mites a couple times in the past. I can't say enough good things about PAM (provent a mite)
Complete clean the enclosure soak your snake a few times and drop the hammer with the pam and you should be good to go.

Never heard this before, just wondering the reasoning? Mites love hiding in the pits and around the eyes, so I always made sure to get the head under water too.

I couldn't find Pam so I picked up reptile relief. I haven't soaked her in 4 days due to her going into shed. She almost tagged me Friday. I sprayed her down today in the viv on her perch. Let it soak for 20 min and then sprayed her off as per the directions. I did notice 2 mites which I believe died shortly after. She did get a bit on her face and licked it up. Then started to yawn and I noticed the inside of her mouth was pink and black. Is that normal? It doesn't look like cottage cheese so I don't think it's mouth rot.

Any advice is welcome. My experience is with ball pythons not chondros. She has been going through a lot since I rescued her. The previous owner was a 16 year old moron.

Depending on the tub size and the snake size having the water to deep makes the snake have to support itself to keep its head above water or continually swim. While snakes swim and swim well it is not good to make a snake exhaust much energy just to keep its head above water. Having the water at a level that doesn't make the snake work to keep its head out of water is just safer. Every time I soak my snakes they always start searching the tub and swim around in a manner that gets them fully soaked. A snake can drown and that would be a terrible thing to let happen when just trying to give a soak. It was this statement that made me say what I did as it is not necessary to use so much water.

Think about it being you. When you want a relaxing soak do you lay in water deep enough that you have to swim or just enough to lay there in peace?

The pink and black mouth sounds normal but Im saying that without seeing it in person. Maybe you should google images of it and make sure it looks like other snakes.

The tub is only 4" deep with water so she doesn't have to swim she just keeps her head up and has been under watch the whole time. It's kinda a boring process much like watching water boil but I do want to make sure she doesn't drown.

Also another ?? What should my schedule be for the reptifogger? I have it on a herpkeeper controller to come on 3 times a day for 30 min every 5 hours 8am 1:30am and 7. Is that too much?

    30 minutes sounds pretty long.

You can get tstats and other controllers that can run a fogger. A cheaper option is the Hygrotherm from Zoomed.

    http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-HygroT...rds=hygrotherm

I had one hooked to my fogger when I had one and it worked very well. Easy to set and kept the humidity where I needed it.

A quick update. She started to shed. Well in one spot on her back. Is it possible for her to still have a full shed? Here's a pic. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b5954f2161.jpg

I went home at lunch and there is still no shed. Should I put her in a Rubbermaid tub with a warm wet towel for a few hours? Or get some shed ease?
