    Preferred Thermostat?
I have a hydrofarm, but i was looking into higher quality therms once i get my pay check.

Herpstat, Vivarium Electronics and Boaphile Plastics Thermostat were the top three on my list. I've heard good things about them, but i know all have their faults and advantages.

So, people of bp.net, what are your personal preferences and why?

I have a herp4 no issues and did my research. I was looking at the vivarium ve2 but spent the xtra on the herp4, only because I can control more racks. The ve2 and herp2 were both priced about the same but the ve didn't offer a 4 probe setup. But one thing to keep in mind....this will be the single most important part of keeping healthy reptiles. Don't cheap out! I also have a helix. That works well. I just thing between the helix and ve2 get the ve2. I just got the herp4 so I didn't have to my more stats. Good Luck!

Herpstat all the way. I have two Herpstat 1s, a 2, and a 4. They are awesome and have never given my any issues.

I have two Herpstat 2s and two Heprstat 1s. Great product. Also right now they are running a sale on Herpstats until the 28th, 10% off so it is a good time to pick one up if you are going too. Best of luck whatever you decide.

A lot of it is personal preference. We use HerpStats. User friendly menu, night drops, alarms, security code lockout, etc... for $139.

Like mentioned- they are on sale right now. I recommend Mark from A+ Serpents. We have purchased 5-6 HerpStats from him. Great service and he is an authorized distributor that will honor the current sale prices. We only use HerpStat 1's and HerpStat 2's.

The VE200 is a single output stat, so does not really compare to the herpstat2. While I have one of about every stat on the market, my personal preference by far is the herpstat line. I only currently have a 1basic and a 4, but that will be the only brand I purchase from now on. At least new, used stuff is always a crap shoot anyway.

Herpstats all the way :D I have a Herpstat 2, Herpstat 1, and I got one of the original Herpstat models that they don't even make anymore for my incubator. All of them work like a dream [emoji4]

I have esperience with hydrofarm, helix, and a herpstat 2. The herpstat would be my choice over all of those. User friendly and runs flawlessly, you can almost set it and forget about it.

I picked up a VE-300 at a reptile expo a few weeks ago. Easy to set up and looks nice, so far very pleased with it.

I prefer herpstats to VEs because I like the blue better than the green.

Boaphile sells the ranco thermostats and I can not recommend them. I've had several of those burn out on me and I ended up losing animals because of it. I personally like the VE200 currently. I've also got several Johnson thermostats that have lasted quite a long time. The Ranco's just don't last.

But green is more of a natural snake / habitat colour LOL.

The VE is yellow, not green. I don't know why the photos are bright green, I actually asked when I saw them at the expo because the picture on the box and in ads is so different from how it looks when plugged in.

Strange phenomenon. Anyhow, I find it much easier to read than the herpstat. I'm sure they're both good, reliable devices.

While I do not have experience with other thermostats, I love the Herpstat 4 and currently have 3 of them. They are a little pricey, but I have not had a single issue with them and they keep the temps within a very specific range in proportional mode and have safeguards to shut down and/or set off alarms (user preference) in case of failure. If it's in the budget, I would go with these for sure.

I feel very very stupid asking this question but if a thermostat is dual zone, can it control two different heaters (in two cages) off of it? Or does that mean it monitors both the warm side and the cool side and makes adjustments accordingly?
Specifically the Herpstat2 or the ve-300x2.

We are upgrading caging set ups for our two guys and want to make sure we do it right.

A Herpstat 2 or VE-300x2 controls two separate heating elements individually. I have a Herpstat 2 that's regulating two racks right now. These are 2 thermostats in one package :) the Herpstat 4 is the same way. It can control 4 individual heating elements. Hope this is helpful [emoji4]

I have a helix, herpstat 1 and a V 300×2. The helix ran my large rack for awhile until I placed it on my incubator and used the ve for the rack. I haven't used the herpstat yet because I just received it on a trade. I would Def recommend the ve because it can control both zones, is proportional and has the night drop feature built right in.

I thought the VEs required a night drop module for that function to work? I know the herpstats do not, it's part of the programming and is based off the internal clock.

The VE300's have the night drop already built in, you have to buy a separate night drop module for the VE100's and VE200's

Ahh, ok. Kind of surprising they would do it that way, wonder why they don't have it built in to all of them? Those are the only brand I haven't owned, so I'm not very familiar with their line. Think I'll stick with the herpstats though.
