    Help with Het Pied MArkers
    Hi Guys,

having a pied has always been a dream but since i'm strapped for cash, i asked a friend whose got a few pairs of POSSIBLE HET PIEDS to send be pics that way i could choose and make up my own pair.

i do know that het pied markers are not guarantees but i just want to increase my chances, anyway, i would be loosing anything if i believed in it.

Could you guys help me out which you think would me most likely het for pied in these?

You cannot post image that are in your email, the best way to go about posting an image is to host them on photobucket or the gallery on BP..net and copy and paste the IMG code :gj:

There is actually good chances on several if not all, number 3 DEFINITELY

I would go with male 1 and female 3 if you have to pick, but I would suggest a male 100% het pied not a possible they are pretty cheap.

Do you have pics of the body (sides and from the top, train track are not the only markers ;))

wouldn't Female #1 be a good choice as well?

I agree with Deborah - besides the belly markers, seeing the pattern of the snakes would also assist, as het pieds tend to have a distinct look to them.

just curious. What kind of distinct look do they have. I have only been told about the train tracks. What should you look for in a HET Pied other than the tracks?

It's hard to explain, and it can be very subtle to someone that isn't used to seeing it, yet very apparent to those who are. Generally side pattern bleeding up from the belly, wonky patterns, etc.

I always look for wonky patterns in het pieds as well as the train tracks.

    My male.

i would as well, her patters obviously tells you there's something she's hiding. you guys have any other choices out of the pics?

Honestly, if it was me I would just save a bit more and buy a pair of 100% hets. I just don't think the ph are worth it with straight up pieds. Especially if it's a dream to own a pied, why bother with a ph,only to raise them up, breed them 3 years from now and find out they aren't het after all and you're back at square one.

Heck I've had a 1.1 pair of het pieds available at $125 and haven't even gotten a bite on them. I bet I end up selling them for $75-$90; so the deals are out there.

i would have done exactly what you have told me if i was in the US. however, the ball's prices here are wack!!!!

a pair of 66% het pied would cost about $250, while a female pied would be about $1,250 in here.. huhu.. if only...

i am not sure where in the world you are but prices are higher everywhere than in the us. Here is a link to a fb group that might help you find a local source.

I like female 1 and male 1 the best. They all look decent but I would look to upgrade the male to a 100% het if you can, maybe next year as males mature faster. Maybe you'll find a better markered unrelated possible het male next year.

Philippines.. :) ill try if i could get a 100% het pied.. its about $550 here. would there be a difference in terms of proving them out if the pair would not be related?
  • 11-15-2014, 12:33 AM

No difference in your odds of proving het pied between a sibling pair of possible hets and an unrelated pair of possible hets. Lots of people breed siblings for one generation no problems but the general assumption is that your odds of stronger healthier babies are better with unrelated. Not a big deal but since the male's markers aren't that great might as well keep your eye out for a better one to replace him with next year.
