    Is my new BP underweight?

She's around 2 months old according to the breeder and only weighs 78 grams.
I thought she should be heavier than that.

I've had her about a week, and in that week, Ive fed her f/t rat pinkies twice, which she took gladly. I wouldn't say shes completely round, she has a slight triangular shape but a thick triangular shape?. I have fuzzie rats in store for her too. In the one week Ive had her, she's pooped once, and it was tiny. That was when I first had her, she has yet to poop the 2 pinkies I fed her.

Sounds about right, at two months my albino was 73 grams. I would move her up to rat pups. Pinks are too small.

I was looking at charts and stuff, and it seems like a 2 month BP's average weight would be at 100-130g?

    Charts don't mean a thing

1# They grow at different rate

2# At such a young age it depends on the size out of the egg, how fast the animal started to eat, how big of a prey, and feeding frequency.

So can a 2 months old be in the 70's on empty? yes it can.

I have hatch BP anywhere from 40 grams to 95 grams out of the eggs, some will start eating after their first shed (10 days) some will take a few weeks.

Bottom line it should really be about overall look then a number.

http://www.thereddragonsden.com/avgweight.htm This link is to a site where a bloke took average weights of his 15 baby ball pythons from birth. So make what you will of it, it is an average, so some will weigh more, some will weight less. Don't read too much into it, if there was a big difference then maybe it is something to worry about. This is a very small difference so don't worry.

OMG! My two BP's of aprox. 14 months old are 161g and 204g. This seems much to light.

Others in the thread have already discussed this.

For the size she is she looks to be a good weight to me, too. Very pretty, such nice, light colors. :) I love the random pattern around the middle of her back.

Your BPs are a year older than OP's (original post says 2 months old), so it's totally understandable that OP's weighs less.

That's not what I meant, 'my' BP's seem much underweight compared to the average.

They are quite small for their age. How are you feeding them?

Well I got them a month ago from a guy who couldn't keep them anymore do to certain circumstances. He fed them an adult mouse once every two weeks. I don't think that it was adequate. I know you should feed them more often than that. But that was out of my control.
I will feed them an adult mouse every week for now and see how they do.

At 161g and 204g They have already outgrown adult mice (unless you're talking about the jumbo retired breeders that are usually around 40g).

If you have some rat pups you may want to try switching them to rats. As your snakes grow (and they will grow quickly once they are fed regularly), you'll be able to increase the size of the rat rather than feed multiple mice, which keeps things a bit easier. They may not switch to rats, but most likely they will so you may want to try it.

Hmmm, okay but the fact is that I bought 50 frozen adult mice recently and they got to go first. I could try to feed them two adult mice a week and see how they do?

You can definitely do that. I wasn't saying not to feed the mice, just that they're getting to the point where 1 adult mouse a week may not cut it. If you need to use up a package of mice, definitely do that first.

She just shed yesterday and had a fuzzy rat too. Shes been feeding nicely for me, no problems. Here is she today. I weighed her, and she is 102 grams. She hasn't pooped tho. How often do they defecate? Her last poop was on 27 OCT.

I'm not too sure, but I think her dad is a Shatter fire.
