Doing things you hate for what you love.
Thought this might make an interesting discussion. Got to thinking about this over the weekend, as I was finishing up my 4th Saturday in a row. I've been working Saturday for the extra overtime, because I'm trying to generate enough money to not go into debt paying for a new project I want to start. Now you have to understand, I hate working weekends, and I mean HATE it. And I have one more to go. Not to mention working 60+ hours in any week will wear you out, never mind doing it for over a month straight. But I know it will be worth it in the end. So let's hear it people, what do/have/will you do to afford or maintain your hobby. I know I can't be the only one who's gone down this road.
Re: Doing things you hate for what you love.
I work 60+ hours a week, Monday through Saturday every week and have for a year and a half now. I do it to pay the bills that I have and to get the things I want. :gj:
Re: Doing things you hate for what you love.
I used to work a full time job and a part time job. I was always exhausted and never felt like I had free time. I was working almost 70 hours a week. Once I got some debts paid I quit the part time job and swore never again. Now that I'm looking to expand my snake collection and start some projects I've started looking for another part time job. Because who needs a life when you could have reptiles?
Re: Doing things you hate for what you love.
I'm an OTR truck driver. My boyfriend takes care of our snake babies while I'm away and that's most of the time. I come home every 4 or 8 weeks approximately and then I get to be home for 4 days. But home is split between my address on record (I live in my truck.) and seeing my kids and grandbaby who live in another state. I've been "lucky" to be home for 2.5 months because I had an accident which tore my hand up. I'm getting ready to go back to work now and it is so much harder to leave after being home for so long.
This is temporary. After I've been driving long enough, I will apply to a local company that requires more experience than I have. I was about to apply for a home every weekend job when I had the accident, so I have to wait again for that position since I have an accident on my record in the last year. Very disappointing for me.
I have debt from divorce and medical issues and I'm trying to get my kids through college. My grandbaby was born with a birth defect which he needs medical care for as well, so it's really important that his immediate family get to the point where they can take care of all their needs for when I'm not around anymore.
One day, I'll be able to stay home and go back to having way too many hobbies. :)
