Where did you buy your last morph?
    Please vote in my poll.

I'm interested in learning where everyone tends to expand their collection? (not counting breeding your own morphs)

Sorry, I was still creating it. There seems to be an awkward time between creating the message and the poll attached to it. :)

I got mine on Craigslist from a guy that was downsizing.
Going to try to breed my next ones myself and buy some from a breeder web site at some point down the line.

A breeder (they all come from breeders who produced their own animals, and who like me believe in selective breeding) .....This breeder also happen to be a good friend.

Ad here for one snake, which led to checking the breeder's web page, which led to a face-to-face transaction for three snakes.

Found my last three on craigslist, though technically I went to meet the person? I've also gotten my snakes from shows, friends who couldn't care for them anymore, and auction websites.

Bought my last one from an awesome local reptile shop from which I get all my food and supplies. I actually bought 3 snakes from them so far.

I got mine via a friend of a friend. She had quite a few reptiles. A breeding colony of cresties, a tortoise, some frilled dragons, burms! Was quite a cool collection!

I the past year I've picked up animals from Dave Green, Jeff Luman and Dino White. Nearly all of the reptiles I have now or have had in the past have been bought online and maybe I've been lucky but I can't think of a single bad transaction in over 20 years.

My only two ball pythons (both morphs), one of which was my last purchase, have been purchased at shows. I have bought other snakes online from breeders, but I'm a little hesitant yet about buying a BP online because I want to see them in person first. I have no breeders near me (that I know of) or I'd consider that option.

The last one was at a reptile show, but I've gotten from 5 of those sources in the past.

I would love to buy my next one from a breeder in person so that I could get a history on the snake. I have bought my last two from the local petstore and regretted both. I lost one (Amelanisticcorn) due to severe eating problems :( and the one I have now (pastel ball) came to me very dehydrated and i'm currently trying to bring it back to decent health. The workers had no idea when it had been fed last or anything about its temperament, eating habits, or history. Nor were they able to offer any advice for how to rectify its health issues. So i'm officially done with pet stores.

I know there are tons of sources to buy online but i'm hesitant to do so for multiple reasons. Firstly that it's so easy to make yourself look good online but turn out to be a horrible source; but mainly that I'm fairly new to the world of snake ownership and I would worry that I wouldn't be able to handle any complications due to shipping a live animal. So i'd prefer to just get it in person. At least until i'm more confident in myself with providing adequate care. My end goal is to one day breed.

New to the site, so far it looks like an awesome source of information. I'll try to upload some pictures in another thread to get some advice. Just putting my two cents in here.

If you're unsure about a breeder online, you can always do two things.

    1) Check here and ask for anyone's experience with the breeder
    2) Check the Fauna Board Of Inquiry: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...splay.php?f=13

Any good breeder knows how to ship responsibly so the snake has the best chance to arrive in good shape. This doesn't guarantee nothing bad will happen, but shipping snakes has a very high success rate when done by someone knowledgeable.

Thank you for the link. I printed that master list of breeders in the US from this site and when I get to the point of buying my next one I plan on asking around here first to get some feedback. And I realize I'm probably just being overly skiddish about getting a live animal in the mail. I barely trust shipping clothing..
