Photo Shoot 10/11/14

Any feedback on the new backgrounds?
-
I really like the different styles each backround brings to the animals. The first style is busy, I like second style best, the one with the Dream Bee.
-
I really like the grey one it's simple but a nice change from the usual white backgrounds. The first one is too busy for my taste but that fire YB pewter is making me forget all about it

On the backgrounds, I agree the white tile look is too distracting. I like the burlap and the smooth gray. More importantly, I love your collection! That dream bee is awesome, and the pewter stuff is delish.

Another vote for the gray. Great photos as usual. I still love your epic mojave.

First, nice shots of the collection, as usual. Here are my honest opinions - take them for what they're worth (:twocents: at best):
The gray background is the clear winner here, but I think its because of the other choice's downfalls. It's a nice change from white, but I can't say I prefer it over white. The shot of your DG, for example, almost starts to feel like its leaning towards axanthic - muting/dulling him out for lack of a better way to say it. It's weird though, because typically gray backgrounds enhance the colors of the subjects. I'm just not getting that here for some reason. :confuzd:
- The white hexagons make it look kind of like an optical illusion where the blushed spots of your Fire YB Pewter disappear into the background. Cool effect, but it doesn't put the snakes first as the star of the photo.
- I'm not sure what it is about the burlap background, but seeing the snakes on there doesn't scream quality to me. They're good shots and represent the snakes well, but my subconscious is telling me a different story.
I hope this helps!

I see some of what you are getting at. Most folks have really liked the burlap, so that may just be how different folks like it. I think it will work better on slightly darker animals. I wanted to get my GHI YB in, but he was not participating.
Big thing was I am just getting tired of the white. I think I will do more with the grey for sure. The others were more for something fun and different.

To be honest, I didn't look at the background
You truly have some amazing snakes. Beautiful!

That gray is nice. It brings out the earthy tones in all the snakes

Completely out of left field, but have you ever tried a shoot using a background in a similar color to the maroon of your site? I'd be curious to see how that plays against a few of the brighter members in your collection.

I have done a few shots on a purple background before. It had a little shine to it, so it was a bit distracting. I my try a flat purple.

I'd have thought all those light coloured snakes would look great on a black or very dark background ..... is that an option !?
-
I'm no photo critique, but I enjoyed the pics. I definitely like the twists you added compared to the standard backgrounds everyone uses. Really sets your pics apart.

I have done black backgrounds. White and black are pretty much the standard, so I wanted to branch out.

Please remember that burlap contains chemicals that are harmful to most living creatures

It's a scrap booking page, not the stuff used for ground cover.

I worked at a fabric store, what we sold was for crafting purposes and not ground cover- still pretty much soaked in kerosene. I still would not trust any burlap.
