    Weights
These are the weights I have to keep a baby BP inside. They are 2.5 lbs each.

At what point should I upgrade to heavier weights? I would have liked to buy 10lbs but they were out of stock.

Do I need to upgrade at all? I know BPs are strong constrictors but how much force can they exert onto an object that is above them?

    Thanks

I have zero interest in that style of terrarium. This is for one BP.

Nice looking rack, who makes that one?

I recommend a terrarium with a sliding and locking lid, like the kind zilla makes (Like the ones on their website here, but also easily found at any pet store). I use two of the 20 gallon sliding lid tanks and it's nice, because I don't have to worry about those snakes ever escaping. However, if buying a whole new tank isn't appealing to you, I also use tank clips for my tank without that style lid (again, you can see them here, but they have them at any pet store). Personally, I wouldn't use weights just because I'm not sure how much weight the screen lids can handle if bigger weights like those shift around, and the last thing I want is a heavy weight falling into one of my tanks.

Thank you for the advice. I looked into clips but was told that they can't hold a BP in and that I'd be "chasing a snake around my house". So I didn't buy them. They work well?

They work well enough for me, yeah. If in doubt, using four instead of two might be recommended and you should always be sure you have the right size for the tank you're using.

Thank you. I will go get them now and return the weights to walmart

ElliotNess - Where do you find a rack like that?
I am wanting to build something like that but would consider buying something like that if it is cost effective vs me making my own.

I believe that a Reptile Basics Iris Sweaterbox rack. If you're looking for one right now, some guy is selling one on the for sale thread with a Herpstat thermostat. I believe in the Albino for sale thread. I was thinking whether to pick it up myself...

OP, instead of buying another glass tank that you will have trouble heating, you should look into PVC type enclosures like Animal Plastics. I feel like their sales rep lately because ive been suggesting their enclosures on multiple threads this week. But honestly, they're just great encolosed display terrariums that keep temps and humidity well and something you're not embarrassed to put in the living room as part of your furniture.

    Here's my setup right now.

When I had my boa- the clips never worked for her, she would always push the top open (i always caught her she never got out) I also had weights on it.
The boa stayed with my ex, and I got a baby ball python right away when I moved and got the slide in top that has built in clips that snap in.
Most secure top I believe if that's the type of enclosure that you choose.

My clips have always worked just fine, but I also have a lazy snake who doesn't seem very interested in escaping. Bumps his nose against the top from time to time, but that is about it. But for the most part I'd say they are secure. They've managed to keep the snake in and the six year old out. Haha

Personally I don't like racks. I guess they are ok if you're breeding, but personally I like to see my snakes :D

I agree with the slide in top. Weights look goofy on top of the tanks :rofl:
