Need help
Heya,
i just fed my bp's and now my Albino female has a big lump on the side of her neck?? i fed her a live mouse,
she also is making some strange noises now every now and then.
at first i thought the mouse bit her but i can't see any bite wounds in her neck it is just a soft lump. should i get realy worried right now or wait and see for a bit how it turns out?
-
Can you post pics of what you're describing?

Re: Need help
How long ago did she eat?? What kind of noises are they?
-
she ate 1.5 hour ago.
when you see her in real, the "lump" is red ish, hmm what sound....
i havent heared it now for about 20/30 minutes but a bit like coughing kind of sound and when she made those sounds she did swing her hed from sideways.
but like i said havent heard those sounds anymore last 30 minutes orso.

It's really hard to say without being in front of her, but it sounds to me like she is having trouble swallowing/moving the food down. Is there a vet or breeder or someone near by you can get her to?
-
well the mouse is already way down her body, where it is supossed to be after just eating.
i cant realy take her somewhere now as it is 1.48 in the night here.
edit:
I just took her out her tub to see if it got any better but still the same, also kinda sounds like heavy bready atm....
but she seems as curious as always and flicking her tounge alot too so not sure to be worried now or not.
but i will have to wait till i get back from work tomorrow and she how she is doing then.

Re: Need help
I think, it`s some kind of infection or health issue. Why don`t you visit a vet asap?
-
well i will visit the vet when i can i first have to work tomorrow and it is in the middle of the night right now.
but it doesnt seem like an infection as it wasnt there before feeding her and right after feeding it was
-
Re: Need help
I hope it wouldn`t be a serious health issue.
-
could it maybe "just" be thatthe mouse got hold of her and did bit but instead of making a would she caused some small internal would? something like some damaged tissue orso?
-
Re: Need help
I also wonder if it is temporary swelling from a scratch or bite from the mouse/ rat.
I would see if it has gone down any in the morning.
-
Hey,
an an little up-date.
the swelling seems to be alot smaller it is almost gone.
She does still make that weird sound though. It is some kind of heavy breathing sound or it also sounds a bit as if you blow air through a straw or so

Ok i just called to the vet. He said he normally doesnt work on wednesday evenings but he will be there if i call hom 15 minutes befor i get there.
so i will first go home after work to pick up the albino and then go to the vet.
I am very happy with this vet as he is also the main vet of a zoo close to where i live and he takes care of all the reptiles there.

Re: Need help
Curious how this turns out, let us know and good luck!

ok sorry i didnt make an up-date sooner but here it is.
when i got to the vet. first thing he did was checking if it was an RI.
and he came fast to the conclusion it wasn't. but because it was already late and he didnt know where to surge for and he didnt hear her making the sounds i was describing he asked me if he could keep her there for the night, as he told me and showed me he has an couple of tubs in a rack that are equipped with tiny camera's and sound recorders (i thought it was kind weird he had that but he seems to be prepaired for anything the zoo he takes care of the reptiles for also have a couple of retics and he even had an space for them) as a snake obviously isnt gonna act the same when held as when she is in the tub.
the next day he called me and told me that he still hadn't found anything, he did a blood test and all was ok and so he asked if she could stay another day/night. i was a bit reluctant cause i was getting a bit worried about the costs but he said i would only have to pay for the first visit and maybe the medicine when was clear what was going on so i was like "ok, yeah sure do whatever is needed".
now the sad part begins.
this morning i got a phone call from him and he told methat she passed away in the night and the way he told me i could hear in his voice he was realy sad about it he kinda feeled like he failed (where i do think he tried realy hard) so he offerd me to do a free autopsy also because he wanted to know what it was and if he missed anything and he wanted to learn fromit as he had never encountered somethiong like this. because i also wanted to know what it was (cause of fear maybe something contageous to my other snakes) i agreed.
now 2 hours ago he called me to let me know that he found what it was.
she had an perferated lung, the lung got perferated by a deformed pointy bone on her spine i went to him this evening and he showed me what he was talking about.
the fact she had that weird "lump" in her neck was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with what happend. he believes that deformed bone stuck through her lung as she was constricting the mouse or after swallowing the mouse (wich i think) and that would be the reason she started making those sounds right after she ate,
how sadning and painful this was the hear i atleast got some reasurance that there is no danger to my other ball pythons.
so that is the whole story.
i am sorry my english isnt perfect and hope you all understand what i wrote.
thanks for all the support when i started this thread.

Re: Need help
I am very sorry to hear that. It does sound like he was trying every thing he knew to do. I have never heard of this happening but now I know if something like this ever happens to me.
-
thx,
the chance of this happening is like even smaller then winning the lottery i guess.
-
So sorry about your loss... that is very sudden and random. I am glad you got an answer, and what a professional vet. You picked a good one.
-
ty.
yeah he is a good vet, i have been with himever since i got into keeping snakes.
-
Sorry about your snake, it's always hard to lose something you love.
-
Re: Need help
I'm so sorry to hear. You did the right thing getting her to the vet, and he sounds like a great one. I am sorry for your loss.
-

i am finding a bit ease knowing i did what i could and also in knowing that this wasnt anything i could have prevented
and i wanna thank you all for the support

Re: Need help
I am so sorry for your loss. But you can always look on the bright side of things. Even if he had caught that. And somehow got her to heal. It would have been a risk during feedings for the rest of her life which would have been a painful life. And like you said it wasnt anything that could pass to the others. I just hope that this loss will just get you closer to your others.
