I am first time herp owner. I have never been really fond of snakes but I was talking to my friend and I decided to buy 2 just a little over a month ago. For the first couple of weeks, I was terrified to take the snakes out of the cage fearing that they would bite me. Nevertheless, I got over my fear and hold them often. My snakes are pretty cool and they have personality. Anyway, I think owning a snake is like getting a tattoo; one is never enough. (For the young guys:like eating potato chips) I am already thinking about getting another one. HELP, I AM HOOKED!!

lol, I understand. Before I had even received my bp I had fallen in love with the red tail boa and swore that was my next snake. And it soon will be. I want to own a bp, red tail boa, and a hog island boa. I already have the bp. Need the boa's. Then I dunno where I'll go from there. Maybe I'll get gutsy and get a blood. :)

Yeah, it really is an addiction.
I actually wanted a Red Tail Boa, for a long time too.
I think I'll stick to Ball Pythons though, since I already bought a 1.1 Albino Het pair ...
My next buy is going to be a sub-adult female ball =]

We started by buying a ball python for our youngest son. We now have about 20 snakes, 2 lizards, and a red eyed tree frog. Oh, yeah, and Smulkin's tarantualas. I'm not sure how many there are - around 6, I think. So yeah, addiction is a good way to describe it. And it's more addictive than tattoos: Smulkin has 3; I have 2.

Ah yes, the herp addiction claims another victim.
I can give you some advice, though. You don't have to buy everything out there that you see, no matter how bad you want it! I'll be the first to admit that there are a ton of herps I see every day at various stores, and online, that I would love to take home. But you have to realize your financial and time constraints. And take into account the lifespan of each animal. The key is to be a good collector, not a hoarder!

hi, my name is mlededee and i am not addicted to herps. i have one snake, three lizards and a tarantula. i am getting 3 red eyed tree frogs at a reptile show soon and possibly another bp. i am getting some cresties and a bearded dragon when i get more space. and then i am getting a pair of giant day geckos. and then i am getting a male pastel to breed to my female bp. when i move from this state i am getting a corn snake or two. no, i am not addicted to herps.

    Schlyne
Hello, my name is Schlyne....and I managed to resist taking an animal home with me from the NARBC. *Sob* All those reptiles.....considered a jungle morph cornsake...a day gecko...my own version of "meatball"...a pac man frog...not to mention those ball python morphs.... and those were only the things I seriously thought about taking home with me.

Good thing I have too many things to do today so I'm not going back...I don't think I could resist. Also, if it wasn't a 1.5 to 2 hour drive through chicago traffic, it would be harder to resist...

Welcome, Justin. You're in good company. If you have that many now, just wait until you have your own income! Let me tell you, it can be dangerous. Since I posted above on Oct. 5th, we've acquired an additional lizard and two more tarantulas. Damn that monthly herp show in Pittsburgh!

I know what you mean! I still don't think I could actually have one in the house, but they are fascinating from here.

Only once with plasma, I'm afraid. Give whole blood instead and you'll recover faster. :)
