Yes I have always had a snake and when he first gotten Camo I told him how to take care of him and all so when he decided he was joining the army he asked if I wanted him and I told him yes my 6 yr old just loves snakes and since his passed away last year he wanted another one so this was a great way for him to show he is responsible.

    Well that's good for you.

Being its yours now we can change some things up. I would suggest covering three sides of the tank with thick paper. This will add to the secure feeling of your snake as well as insulate the tank a bit.

Then I would change out the half log hide with a better option that has only one small door. If your stuck on keeping it then just push the back opening to the glass of the tank to give it one entrance/exit. Then get some moss and place a big glob in the front opening to create a barrier that will add a even more secure feeling for your new buddy acting like a door.

Now that's its yours I would also hook up the uth and tstat to give it a nice warm hide.

Great minds think alike I was just talking about that I want to add more to his tank. And fix it up. It's a nice basic set up but he needs more wood to crawl on I just gotta find mine and add it to the tank and the uth I was looking into that because I am so paranoid now I'm not gonna lie accidentally killing one because you froze him out makes you think about a lot. And thanks for the great tips I'm use to big tanks.

    Good deal.

I use Herpstat thermostats and love them. I have two 1s, a 2, and a 4. All have given me problem free service so far. If you check around you can score a good deal on a used one.

The tstat is your most important thing you can buy so I always suggest buying the best you can afford. I have had two el cheapo tstats before and they failed.

I see one thing with the lights how they are currently set up and have an easy fix. What I started doing was using a red heat bulb for the heat and in another fixture I use a screw in fluorescent bulb for just the visible light during the day. The fluorescent bulb adds no heat and only it will need a timer to operate the hours its on.

I find the red bulbs last longer than day heat bulbs and with a fluorescent light the red light is not seen. This will also let the heat source stay over your hide at all times so the hide does not cool at night. I have come to really like this method.

Thanks for all the advice it's crazy I had my first snake for 12 years and I'm like all this is brand new lol it's just I want more with this one.. And quick question since you live in Houston and I live in galveston do I need a humidifier during the winter? I never used one before but since I am adding so much heat change to the tank do I need to adjust it

Well I don't use a humidifier on my bp tank but I do have a mister. I have live plants so I added the mister as an automatic water system. It really doesn't do much for humidity though as its a 40 gallon tank.

What I do for my humidity issue is add moss to each hide. During a shed I make sure it stays damp. During regular non shed times I make the moss damp and then allow it to dry out before making it damp again. This has helped give me consistent full sheds. If you did that and mist the tank ever so often you should be fine.

I Do mist it I will mist every 3 to 4 days I have only had him 4 days so I will find him out. I was around him before I got him but not like this. So I need to figure him out.hes not stressed or even scared of being handled witch is good. I will do my first feed Saturday and it will be be a live med. so I will figure out his shad pattern and all that and adjust from it.

I should add that I use cypress mulch which is a big help.

Now days I have evolved into using a mix of cypress mulch, eco earth, and repro bark. So far I like it mixed. I like naturalistic cages so it is aesthetically pleasing yet functional.
