Small Umbilical Protrusion on Neonate Ball
Opened up the incubator this morning to see that one of my baby ball pythons had left her egg. Upon taking her out to give her a quick examination and get a weight and sex, I noticed a protrusion of membrane coming from her umbilicus. I cleaned her off and decided to refrain from sexing her, and to keep her in a separate container from her sisters. I decided to check on her a few hours later, and the protrusion had cleared up completely, and her umbilicus looked completely normal and just like the other babies. I was at first worried that it might be a hernia, but now it seems she is fine. She has been active and happy the entire day. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is it something to be concerned about? I'm posting a link to the photo below; you should be able to access 3 photos total. The little gold/brown flecks are just small pieces of vermiculite.

This has never happened to me before, but a friend of mines pastel babies had that same trouble. But it never seem to hurt the hatchling. You should be fine👌

Re: Small Umbilical Protrusion on Neonate Ball
I actually have had the same thing with my recent babies, the very last one out has been taking forever to suck what's left of his umbilical back up. He still had a little nub of it, and he was so active (even though we separated him) that he apparently rubbed it back OUT.
Since then my boyfriend tied off the extra and cut very close to his belly, added neosporin just in case, and he's been looking fine. But of course, I'm paranoid he'll never pull the tiny bit of what's left back in there.
Will that also just dry up and fall off or should I be worried? (This is my first clutch and all the other babies haven't had the issue)

This was it before he pulled it back out, when he did it was just the same pink umbilical tissue, which was tied off close to the belly. It was almost like he was trying to rub it off.

Just got this updated picture and it looks much better.

Thank you! :D He's a vanilla pied, only one I hatched :3
Also, thanks for the reassurance. He's made a lot of improvement since the excess was tied off so I'm hopeful he should have a normal bellybutton soon haha. I was just a little worried.
