Green Day hasn't been around that long, have they? Am I really that old that they are considered to be an 'old timer' band?? I thought they came out in the early nineties, that wasn't that long ago!

In any case, I've always liked them, but never really got 'into' them per say....and I'm not really fond of the new single, American Idiot...hopefully the rest of the album is good though.

Green Day isn't really my type of band.
I'm more of a metal head myself.
I think it's funny that Americans actually listen to "American Idiot"
I say we make a remix of it to "Canadian Idiot" ... but yet again we americans have been bashing Canadians for a long time, so I guess we can't really complain.

I'm not a political person, but I am somewhat patriotic, so that's probably why the song offends me just a bit. And for the record, I've never made fun of Canadians. Being a Buffalo, NY native we lived so close that you almost feel like Canada is an extention of the US. Besides, I loved going to Toronto on weekends and Canada was always cleaner....eh!

Wow...I feel old. Green Day started getting popular when I was in high school. Sniff! But ah, the memories! 8) 8) 8)

I'm not a politcal person either, but hell I love this country.
    If I didn't I'd be living in Canada :P

I'm just saying TV in general pokes fun of Canada ...
    "Blame Canada"?

I visited my aunt in Toronto count less times.
It is much cleaner there, but I love Brooklyn with all my heart :P

Brooklyn, is home away from home.

Now there's a band vinnimac. Nothing like the hardcore flute, and the crAZy scottsman! :)

As for Green Day, i'm not a huge fan of their newer stuff. It is good, but i prefer my Green Day a bit harder than that.

Gotta agree with on that one man. I go from Dave Matthews to the Beach Boys to Snot to Peter Gabriel in a matter of 4 songs ;)

Hmm, so if I give you my opinion about what's wrong with you. You won't take it as a "diss"?
Personally, I don't think Canadians should be giving their opinions on what's wrong with the US, do they live here to judge it? No.

Let me quote some of the lyrics for you.
"I'm not a part of a redneck agenda."

    That's not a diss?

Well first off Canada is really like another piece of America to me it is greatly affected by what america does. And that quote of yours is probably the worst thing on the song. And are you a part of a redneck agenda because thats the only way that could offend you. I think you're just have a disliking for greenday because your a big heavy rock fan and are purposy trying to find any kind of flaw and totally misreading greenday they love America just as much as us.

Well.... music is music. Some hard rock goes around screaming about killing people, and people dying horrible deaths. But it's just music, and it's just some ones opinion. Just because the lyrics say things that could offend people, it doesnt have to be about that. Just listen to the music. Green Day aren't terrible people just because they say something about rednecks.

If you think about it, some of the lyrics make sense, such as "Can you hear the sound of hysteria?? The subliminal mindf**k America.." I'm not saying everyone in the US are idiots (hence the name of the song..), but some of the decisions people make in this country are crazy. You can say that about ANY country, state, providence, what have you. There is some crazy hysteria-type sh*t that goes down in the US. Think about all the women who's life depends on sleeping with people for money, or people out there killing innocent victoms. There is hysteria everywhere. I love this country to pieces as well, and i'd never want to live anywhere else... but the whole world is pretty f***ed up most of the time.

But... it IS only music. it's nothing to fret about and get p*ssed about... remind me to never make a thread about how i like Eminem...

p.s. dont be so cruel when some one gives their opinion. I've noticed how people here jump to conclusions and start b****in and complainin to each other. Just be a little bit more easy goin, and threads like this wouldn't get locked.

    C'mon.... be friends... :)

I am the same way, I listen to Beethoven, Bolero, Metallica, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers Band, Pink Floyd (alltime favorite band), Rush, Led Zeppelin, Ministry, Sisters of Mercy, Dave Matthews, etc. etc. etc. I have a huge musical appetite and am never close minded when it comes to music, I do have my preferences however and don't necessarily like everything I hear.

I saw them in concert before, many years ago but they were great! And of course I own some of their albums.

I listened to the new Green Day song, and my main impression was that it was just them saying "hey, I have my own opinion, I ain't going to mindlessly follow anyone." Kinda a basic classic punk-rock message, really. But that's my general opinion; I am sure that the lyrics could be analyzed, and ten people could get eleven different ideas about what it all means. Just like any song out there, really. Look at the song "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." That could be cheerful and idyllic to some, and an endorsement to spousal infidelity to others!
Personally, I do not like to categorize myself as only liking certain music. If I made a soundtrack to my life, it'd include Type O Negative, Slayer, The Smiths, The Cure, Depeche Mode, some classical Beethoven, Johnny Cash, and maybe even a little Neil Young. I tend to like tragic, heart rending music because it is very soulful. But some loud, aggressive Slayer does the trick for me sometimes, and I can even find a place in my heart for some upbeat 80's pop.
But in short, I LOVE music.

i should really look around this place for chatter on more than just belly sliders this topic is old already
i waited almost a month for greenday.com to countdown the american idiot release, this is a spoof off of american idol if that isn't obvious, its not a political statement or ne thing
green day is not to be taken serious like that, they have always been a punk band ever since the garage days, rebels without a cause (about the only ones left too) not bad for a bunch of nimrods who have made more than 100 songs playing 3 chords, they are like the taco bell of music, how do they keep coming up with new stuff with the same ingredients? j/k lol
like alot of people here they are my favorite, i like foo fighters (the best i can do is follow nirvana's drummer with no more kurt), everclear, bush (no i don't want gavin either, i actually like their music hehe), radiohead but green day is #1, have been since i got into music in high school (i think i still have a hoodie sweatshirt from their '91 tour)
i like this album but i would have to say that american idiot is not the best song on the album, i would put it around #4
i love boulevard of broken dreams, i think that could do as well as good riddence did its that type of song
holiday, give me novacaine, letterbomb, wake me up when september ends and whatsername also good ones its a softer album and they have changed since the beginning but then all the great ones do, a static style will mean has been city real quick
i think they shut up that long time complaint that their albums are too short with this one, 2 songs over 9 mins in length and 1 hr total playtime and not a single song that i would call a "miss" i was happy paying my $10 for this album, thats something from an avid mp3 pirate

Ok, "ancient old timer"? I haven't listened to green day in a long time, but I still have dookie around here somewhere, and I have the cd that has "time of your life" around here someplace as well. And yeah, green was getting really popular when I was about 13 or so.

For whatever reason, the groups I would describe now as my favorite groups are groups that nobody else has heard off. I love the group "Murder By Death". They're great, and they seem to be on tour all the time. My taste is music ranges very far though. I still have pink floyd, I've seen Jethro Tull in concert (last year), I listen from things like Marilyn mansion to enya, to NIN, to emma shapplin..etc. I have a lot of mp3's. Rush has some good lyrics, but I don't like them very much. I think it's his voice. The cd I'm looking forward to the most right now that's coming out is Nick Cave's new double cd. I'm also interested in Garbage's new cd, but that probably won't come out into late this year or early next.
