Angolan pythons nearly bring me to tears. This is coming from a 22 yr old male former wrestler, so let me explain why.
Angolan pythons are beautiful and well tempered (all of this is from my reading, I have no personal experience) yet their habitat and they themselves are continually being destroyed. If you have never seen angolan pythons please go do a google. From what I have read they are very similar to our beloved BPs in terms of size and temperment... some say they are better feeders. Anyways - what can I do to help? I am SO sick of seeing these beautiful pictures and reading about zoo breeding programs. What can I do to help? How can I preserve the habitat or help this species increase it's numbers? One Angolan python sells for about the price of a new foreign sports sedan so it's not in my budget to buy one. I have yet to find a group specifically pointed twards preserving this amazing species and I would like any direction you can give in helping me find one. If it comes down to it I would love to start one. So please give me any info any of you have on preserving this amazing species as it has stolen my heart.

I know that Alex Hue has at least one breeding pair of these beauties, if not more. He had some available earlier in the year. They are absolutely stunning to behold!

Jonah, that pricing is pretty current on Angolans. You can typically pick them up for $2500 each.
Awesome snakes to work with, too.

http://www.pythons.com/angolan.html here are some pics for those interested... I am SO in love with these snakes but to own some without trying to breed them should be a crime as there are so few.

oh wow, their heads look so much like bps!!!! if you find any way to help them... besides buying them for a ton of money... let me know. :)
-
oh I certainly shall - i'm gonna talk to some people at the zoo here in nash. an maybe make some calls up to chi-town

Jonah, I am right there with you in being in love with the Angolans. Unfortunately, even at the bargain price of $2500 they are out of my price range, but one day ...

Wow, those are beautiful! I'm in....but flat broke most of the time. I'd love to save up four months pay and get a breeding pair. Damn...I want to help so bad. :( They're gorgeous.... and endangered.
Good luck with getting something together, and definitely keep us posted. :D

Tthey are so beautiful. Instead of just breeding more BP morphs, some new breeder with cash should get into breeding Angolans. Just to preserve the species. I know that if I had the dollars, I would.

I was kind of bent the other day. I saw an auction for a proven breeding pair for 4500. They would also throw in a pair of centrilian pythons to boot. Four sweet snakes for a good price... If it were next year I would have done it. lol
edit: the centrilians were so sweet looking a had to keep a pic. Didnt get one of the Angolans though.

??? You'd probably be surprised as to how many folks are actually working with Angolans. They'll never be as common as balls, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you'll see a lot more of them available over the next 5 years or so.
