Long story short, a friend of my girlfriend has this stupid rat they didn't want anymore,

Tara (my gf) brings it to me for snake food. My carpet could probably take it, large rat...maybe xl.

Anyway this little rat is and has been raised as a pet so i am having problems feeding it to my snake and she is pissy about it.

She doesnt even like snakes. If it was your typical feeder rat that wanted nothing more than to bite the crap out me...sure no problem...but its fairly friendly and trusts humans....would you feed it, have your roomate feed it, keep it, or let it go?

Keep it or feed it but I wouldn't let it go.

I would make the decision for myself that made the most sense to me if I were in your situation. Just because it's a rat doesn't automatically make it snake food...

I think she's so pissy because she is trying to get used to my animals and here she is thinking of them and i don't want to feed my snake her gift to them

It sounds like its more of a "here's this thing I don't want" than a gift. Maybe she just doesn't know any better that pet rats aren't really considered feeders.

I'd say try to find it a home yourself/keep it, but if you do decide to feed it to your snakes make sure its healthy.

Not to be heartless, but I'd feed it. Sorry, but I would.

I don't think your heartless...would be sensless for me though. I have 2 doz medium rats in the freezer which is the appropriate size for them. This rat was pushing it sizewise even for my carpet so i saw no need to kill a pet rat...it even had a name , i think that was the biggest thing, and he was pretty nice and personable as well...

    Just didn't feel right

Do not release a pet in the wild be responsible and do the right thing, this should not even be an option.

Feed it off, find a home for it or keep it as a pet... those are your acceptable solutions.

I'm sorry, but releasing into your barn is cruel. Find a good home for the pet rat , who believes by now that humans are his family. The rat deserves a loving, forever home. I'd take it if you lived near me in a heartbeat.

I'm glad you found a home for it. It's a shame how some people consider pets to be as disposable as an object once they get tired of them or they're not convenient anymore, and then they have no issue getting rid of them in awful ways.

Find a rescue in your area and give her to them. You know they will be well cared for and safe. I have 3 pet rats and I would never hurt them because they make me happy:) if you give it to a rescue someone can come take her and she will be happy and she will make her owner happy too! Even if there's not rescue in your area then ask around your neighborhood find someone who she will make happy[emoji4]

I wouldn't feed the rat to the snake… I would keep the rat as a pet or find a home.
