60 + days from prelay shed?
Has anyone ever heard of it taking a gravid female 60-70+ days to lay ??? I've heard 54 at the most.
I have a girl that is on day 72.... She is 16 yrs old and this was her first time breeding.
I know what most people will say or ask. "What if she's just not gravid?".
I kept asking myself the same question, but she hasn't eaten since she ovulated, (which I witnessed) and she is HUGE!! I'm talking massive, poor girl looks so uncomfortable.
I've checked her really well and she isn't egg bound ( from what I can see)
I'm hoping it's just taking time for them to cook.
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. I will keep y'all up to date on when and how many she has.
If she doesn't have them in the next couple of days, I'm thinking a vet visit is in order . http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/30/juta3a2u.jpg

60 + days from prelay shed?
No she was a few weeks ago but hasn't lately, she dug out the nest a few weeks ago also. I'm going to give her a little soak in warm water when I get off work this afternoon.

How many eggs are you counting and how far is the first egg from the cloaca?
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
And here I thought my genetic stripe female taking 46 days was annoying.
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
By the look of her just above the vent something is due to come out really soon.
Try putting a humid nest box in with her?

To be completely honest, she is so big it's hard to count. At least 9 in there. I would say about 3 inches
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
I soaked her for 30 min yesterday. I was hoping for some eggs last night but nothing. She's been curled up in the position all day so hopefully it's tonight. I'm getting really worried
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
Is she curled up tail in or out?
The next step and I would not wait too much longer will be the vet.
The vet may prescribe oxytocin to induce her, or aspire the first egg if she is egg bound, those would be the best case scenarios.

I'm giving her till Sunday morning, if nothing by then, we are going straight to the vet. And her tail is ticked in right now. She just started coiling up again

Right before they will lay their tail will be tucked in so it could be a good sign, I hope for you. :gj:

Check it out everyone! :) this is happening right now. She has about 10 eggs out so far and feels like she isn't finished! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/ytyjugy5.jpg

Thanks! We are at 13 eggs 🍻
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
Congrats. That is a large clutch. At 16 she was obvioulsy full grown. How large was she when you started pairing her? Looking forward to your next thread and this one should take less then 72 days.
Re: 60 + days from prelay shed?
Wow! No wonder she took so long to lay!
That's a lot of eggs to shell, and from what I can see in the picture she did a great job with them.
Congrats on the healthy clutch and a healthy mama. :)
