Gravid ball python - anal glands were sticking out & pulled back in
My gravid ball python just produced a tiny urate & was continuing to try to move something down her butt for about 5 minutes. Then while her tail was up, about .5-1 cm of pink insides were sticking out. She pulled them back in shortly after. Vet mentioned that if her anal glands were sticking out to bring her in but I don't know if he meant that if she couldn't pull them back in. I'm currently waiting for a call back from him.

Wow. Crazy. How far along is your girl? Could it be possible that she's getting ready to let her eggs out? I don't know much about how long it takes or anything so I could be wrong.

God I certainly hope so! This little mama is going to give me a bloody nervous breakdown. I guess time wise she should be laying very soon but recent X-rays showed that the eggs weren't fully developed. I should point out that the eggs are slugs. Maybe she's like any pregnant woman close to giving birth & is like "I'm done! I want them out now!" Lol

From what a person on here told me it's around 50 days till they lay eggs. If it's close to that it just might be. How do u know that their slugs?

I really hope so. She's my baby. She has had a lot of health problems in the past, so I'm afraid that there will be problems & I won't catch a complication in time. I feel really guilty too because she wants out of her cage like she's used to & every time I go to change her water she tries to get out or tries to climb onto me but everybody says it's not safe to handle them at this time.

I'm hoping they are slugs. She's never been paired before. I just found out she was a female when I took her to the vet a while back & she looked like she was ovulating. - but people have said that it's not unheard of for them to fertilize their own eggs.

That's true. I've heard of it too. U never know. I held mine which was Gravid and didn't know it. My male I rescues came out to be a Gravid female. I'm no pro at Gravid females but I let mine out and no problem. All eggs are fertile and healthy. Just don't hold her to Much. I don't see a problem with letting her roam around the house or outside.

I came home to 8-9 eggs in her humid hide last night. It was crazy!

I was wondering if your ball pythons' have ever gotten stressed out from their eggs being taken away?

they don't like it no, after you gently uncoil her from the eggs and remove them, wash her and clean her cage with new substrate to get the smell of the eggs off of her so she won't be stuck in a incubating mentality.

Are the eggs slugs? Veins in them? (:

Congrats on the eggs. I'm doing maternal incubation sense mine were a surprise and is my first time but I noticed my girl which never even coiled back at me has tagged me twice so far after having eggs lol. From what I heard tho is if u take the eggs clean her and the cage very well so the smell isn't in there any more and she should go back to normal. Best of luck. And congrats again

She laid 10 and I guess they aren't all slugs! I shone a flashlight in some of them and their are veins! Now I don't have the heart to trash the eggs. I'm going to have to incubate them.

I just wanted to ask Jason, I obviously know nothing about ball python breeding or what's to be expected, but have you examined her since she laid her eggs?
When I examined my girl yesterday, she looks like skin & bones, definitely lost at least 25% of her original body weight - I don't know if that's normal but I don't think she would have survived until hatching time.

Thats normal, Shell also have a very sunken in stomach (to coil the eggs)

If you have a quality incubator use it. IF not id give her the chance to maternally do it. Itll be a experience for you both. Just switch substrate to Cocohusk/Coco chunks/Cypress mulch as you NEED to keep humidity up. Give it a mist day/night (but not directly on eggs try to keep them dry as possible) And let momma do her best. Offer her food every 10-14 days. If she takes good if not, offer later.

Though it looks like shes not doing much, shes actually constantly regulating heat of eggs with body shivering.

Best of luck to you both :)

This my first clutch as well lol. I went the maternal route this time sense it was a surprise. I had the same question and Corbin is spot on with the answer. Lol. I put eco earth in my tank and let mama do her thing. Keep temp up to 86 and humidity up to 80. Mama will do the rest. Here's a good read for maternal incubation.

    Thank you :)

I decided to take them away from her & make a home made incubator.

Alexisis Fitzy: I actually haven't had her with another ball python for the 3-4 years I've owned her.
