When do you stop 15% of body weight for feeder?
Sorry, I tried using the search option and couldnt find what I was looking for. One of my snakes is now almost 600 g and the other is approaching 500g. At what point do you stop the 15% weight rule for feeders? I purchased 4 packages of small rats because many posters said they feed adult bp small rats weekly. I sorted them all out and they range from low 60-mid 80g. At this point does it even matter since they are all small rats? Thanks[emoji2]

I stop the 15% at 500-600g when they move to small rats, every 6-7 days (my males stay on small rats for there time) females move up to med at 1300g

As Corbin already said works. I stop once they hit smalls. Bigger girls get small or meduims but I also have a couple that will take a large every now and then.

Hey quick question again......I weigh every single rat my guys eat...both are eating small rats...but the weights are varying from low 60s up to low 90s......does it not matter anymore??

A small is from 46 to 79 grams. If you are getting over that then you are up to mediums already.
    Feed what they eat.

I have only ordered smalls....and I got three bags of them from big cheese factory. I think the biggest one was 92 g some in the 60s....most in 70s and a few in the 80s and 90s. I am POSITIVE I have only ordered small rats.

I never used 15% I feed a prey that is equal the girth size until I reach small rats for males and medium rats for females.

Since you said you sorted them by size, what I would do is start by feeding off the smallest ones first and work your way up. As your snakes grow, so will the size of the small rat you're offering. Honestly though? It probably doesn't matter.

As a side note, I'm glad I'm not the only one that weighs every single feeder. :P

And eric....that is what I have been doing.....but when I open the next package of rats......they are going to be going back down in size...I guess it doesn't really matter anymore though.

What Deborah said. Although I rarely offer my largest girls mediums. All my adult BPs get smalls or medium-smalls, whatever their size. Trying to use the 15% rule on my crew only resulted in hunger strikes. But if it works, hey. It's all good.

Only going by the weights you gave.
You could open all the bags and adjust them by true size. You are not the only one that has gotten some larger rodents or smaller in an order.
I weigh all my rats that I sell to make sure I am within the standards.
I just go by what I have on hand when I feed.

I think they will hold longer in the deep freezer if I dont open them....I am going to stop weighing after this bag and just say they ate a small......lol thanks again everyone!

I think it's better if you feed a rat around the same size as the largest part of the snake's body

I am sorry, but weighing rodents seems like a "Revenge Of The Nerds", or "Big Bang Theory" type of thing....:rofl::rofl::rofl:

10-15grams wont make a huge diffrence once they hit smalls, I know my smalls are 60-89grams, and medium 90-120, large 120-150.

You could likely ask for "small 60g" or whichever im sure they'd do that, but longevity it wont matter.

10 to 15 grams is not much BUT your weights you listed are a little off from the standards.
This is the chart pretty much a rodent breeders go by:
