Very first Tegu! So happy!
I'm so stoked to announce that we have brought home our very first tegu! It's a little Argentine Black and White male we've decided to call Romeo. He's absolutely beautiful and I couldn't be happier with him. I even cried a few times since I still can't believe we have him. Getting a tegu is something I've wanted to do for a loooooooooooooong time. Now that we have the resources to care for one we didn't waste any time picking up this little guy.

He's on a mix of aspen and eco earth but I plan on switching him to a mix of pure cypress and eco earth in August. Sketch plans for an 8x5x4 enclosure are being worked on whenever I have time. I think he's going to grow into an amazing adult :)
EDIT: whoops, those were my wm'd photos for another forum. Sorry folks!

It's totally beautiful! Congrats on your new pet!!

Congrats. Spend lots of time with him while he is young so he gets nice and tame. I rescued my Tegu from someone who never handled the poor guy and it has been a struggle dealing with a three foot semi - aggressive lizard with razor sharp teeth, but he is slowly starting to come around.

Thanks! And yeah, that is definitely something I'll be working very diligently on. In fact, we had a handling session today and it went very good! He only tail whipped me once, spent some time climbing my hands, and then sat in my lap for a few seconds. I find him easier to handle after he's had breakfast and is full of food.
Here's a few pics I snapped of him after he finished eating:

Congrats nice looking guy you have there. I got my lil girl a few months back...they are such awesome animals...she was a terror at first but she is starting to calm down...i cant want till she gets some size on her! A helpful hint make sure you are diligent on keeping your humidity up...my lil girl is having a rough time shedding even at a constant 65%

He is quite the looker! At first I thought I'd have a problem with the humidity but it's been staying around 70 to 75 with daily mistings.
