CONGRATS........sweet snake!!

Nice job all! I finally got the front page updated to reflect the winners.
BPBabe - sorry your entry was filtered out but i DID just find it - and as the sole entry in the category updated the winner for that as well!
-
Now I wonder if cagecrafters will ever return here after his one post.
-
Don't worry about it, Blink. The admins have planned a few changes around here, and one of them relates to that.
-
That is good to hear, Marla!!

Just because I dont post alot doesnt mean I dont come here. I come almost everyday and read the forums. I've been on the road alot doing shows so I have been busy getting cages together and then traveling.
And thank you to all that voted for my picture. I appreciete it.
A little info on the animal:
04' Ian Gniazdowski Pastel Jungle Male. I bought the animal from Ian in July, he was 64 grams, and now hes right around 300 grams.
Thanks again.

Did anyone see the banded pastels Ian did....spectacular animals. Definetly my next snake.

Cagecrafters, this isn't to you personally, but the admin council feels that participation should be rewarded and encouraged by limiting the contests to those who actually participate in the site. We're not looking for record-setting post counts or anything remotely like that, but it doesn't seem fair for people to participate only by entering and sometimes winning the contests either. More information should be available by the next contest.

So what your saying basically, is people that dont have the time to sit in front of the computer and post on the forums more then once or twice a week or maybe less should not have the right to win a photo contest? I am not quite sure I understand this.... People that are active users of the forum should have more right to participate in a photo contest then people that arent able to sit at the computer quite as often? What does that have to do with a photo contest? Isnt that kind of like saying people that only play the lottery when the pot is very high shouldnt have the right to play or god forbid, win?
I only registered a short while ago, so if me winning is a problem, I wont post anymore of my ball python pics. Limiting the contest to those who accually participate in the site is a bit harsh of a statement IMO. Last I checked , submiting a pic was participating. Oh well. Enuff said.
Again, to those that voted for my pic, Thank you very much. I am very proud of all of my ball pythons and take great pride in them. Thanks and be safe.

I know you haven't been a member long, and I am not trying to take anything away from you. We have had "members" before whose only participation was to enter contests, and sometimes they would enter and win multiple months but never even post so much as an introduction or a thread with photos of their animals. I am not sure what the required participation level is going to be, but I wouldn't be surprised if an *average* of once a week or 4 times a month was considered. You are welcome here at this site, and we'd love to see you participate in the community here. If you do, you might just find it's a pretty cool one.
-
I'm sure if he had 5 minutes to defend himself,
he had 5 minutes to post on the caging thread.
I'm sure he can help loads there.
-
basically its just that its not for people who register, then only do the photocontest every month? right?
i dont think they should be able to win anyways
but how do you know if someone joins like, 2 days before one starts, and enters? or are you going to have it so you have to have posted like, a certain amount before entering
this reminds me, i need to take more pictures of my babies
-
RG, when the rules change, we will have a thorough explanation up and answer any reasonable question. For now, let's just avoid further speculation and uncertainty, ok?
-
alrighty, i was just wondering
im off for the night though, having a bad night, so i need to go out.
talk to you all tommorrow
-
Thanks. I'm not prepared to answer all this because it really hasn't been completely hammered out detail-wise.

I personally don't agree with putting restrictions on the photo contest. A photo contest should be a photo contest. A more active member of the forums is more likely to receive favouritism from the voters, and that is more than enough to compensate for any lack of activity in my opinion. Different people can contribute to the site in different ways. If everyone contributed in the exact same way the site would be very redundant with a very narrow focus.
Congratulations on winning the contest Cagecrafters, that is one gorgeous pastel and should produce some really nice babies for you.

Thanks HHW, I appreiceite the compliment on my little boy. I wish I could take the credit on producing him, but I can't, thats all Ian Gniazdowski. I am however very excited about breeding him this season. If he throws any offspring that slighty resemble him, I will be thrilled!

Voting is closed for this time, but if you have any questions as to how to vote in the next contest, please ask!
-
If people are worried about favoritism shown to people who are here daily, we might consider making the contest anonymous (i.e. not reveal who submitted the photos until after the voting is closed).
Sam, I found your website the other day by doing a Google search. I'm sure all of us would be thrilled if you could post some ideas or hints in the caging forum from time to time. How did you start doing what you're doing and at what point did you decide you were able to make it a full time business?
-
Ooooh, I kind of like that idea Smynx! There was a photo contest at a reptile show I went to over the weekend, and they wouldn't reveal who took the pictures until after the contest was over.
I also think there should be somewhat limited to active members, but I also like the idea of it being anonymous. Except if a member has posted that pic in the forums previously, or it is a highly recognizable snake, (like Hockeymom's pied in this months contest) people might know whose it is anyway. But I really don't think people on this board show favoritism anyway. Usually the best picture wins!
-
You're right, gen - I don't think I've ever seen a photo win that I didn't think deserved it. There may have been others equally as good, but I've never looked at a winner and thought "Why in the world . . . "
Nevertheless, it might be fun to try posting the photos without the names of the submitters.
We'll try to get some ground rules regarding who is eligible to submit ironed out soon, but we certainly don't want to prohibit relatively new members from submitting photos just because their post count is low. Now if they've been a member for 6 months and only have made 10 posts, that's another story.
-
i like the idea of being annonymous, however, all you need to do is look through peoples albums it wouldn't take much to figure it out who has what. most forums have thier "clicks", but i believe there was no favoritism displayed in this months winner. cuz noone even really knows sam. but i also havent been around that long to say about past contests, but i also wouldn't accuse anyone otherwise.
and as for getting more people to post, there is only so much that can be talked about and i think this forum has enough fluff as it is. we might just need a little more creativity from everyone. maybe we should look for quality not quantity of posts. not everyone has the time to be a highly active member. maybe they have lives or enough friends....just my $.02

And who would be qualified to determine quality of posts? That opens a whole new can of worms, and I don't think it's do-able. No one is suggesting that the contests be limited to those who post daily or even weekly, just that they not be open to those who do not otherwise participate in the community. The contests are for the community, after all. We have had an individual win at least two months' montests that I know of, who has never posted at all -- granted, not in the last few months, but hardly what you'd consider a participant.
-
i think the whole point of the contests is just for something fun. people like to show off their animals and this is a fun way to do it. it's not like the winner gets any kind of material prize. if there are any stipulations i think they should be relatively mild--perhaps you should have 10 or more posts or you should have been a member for at least a month. there is no favoritism shown as far as i can tell in the voting so i don't really see a problem there, although keeping submissions anonymous is a fun idea. i think that we need to not get too serious and carried away here, and just keep in mind that it is just a fun little thing we have here on the forum.
-
Well said, mlededee. Should I be worried that you'll steal my title? The point of contests is to have fun and share photos of our herps
-
ha ha, i doubt that smynx. but thanks.
