well i got some bad news about a month ago but i have not heard any news on the subject recently. their is a bill that has passed legistlation saying that all boids, crocodilian, monitors and tegus, iguanas, and other herps are no longer allowed in ny with out a permit. now for the bill to be passed pataki has to sign it. now i have noe recent news on the matter but i ewas wondering if anyone else did. this really sux and i have heard people say a million times that the bill will not be passed but i have no idea what is going on.

The discussion about this bill has been going on for a really long time now actually.
You might want to read this -
http://www.api4animals.org/232.htm
It doesn't mention anything about Boids.

Just get a permit, and your good to go.I dont think they are that expensive, and even if it is, i think its worth it.
-
Getting a permit's easy unless you plan to breed. I had to have one to keep my snakes in Delaware County, and it was as simple as going to the department in charge of it:
Tracie: "Hi, I'd like a permit to own snakes."
ClerK: "Kay. How many?"
Tracie: "3 at most."
Clerk: "Anything over 6 feet?"
Tracie: "Most likely not."
Clerk: "Gonna breed them?"
Tracie: "Nope."
Clerk: "Sign this."
I doubt it'll pass, but if it does, you'd do well to be prepared. And thank the boxheads that keep Burms in their NYC efficiency and let them get out for pushing this bill closer and closer to signing.

Brian would need his parents to get the permit.
I highly doubt they give permits out to minors.
-
Oh, derp. I completely forgot about that.
Yeah, get your mom to do it.

Where is this? I odn't want to move to an area that has these laws and not know about it before hand

Welcome to New York, everyone, the "I can't stand to see anyone have any kind of fun whatsoever, so let's make a bunch of stupid laws banning anyhting that could possibly lead to injury, except sports and racecar driving" state.
If this keeps up, I am moving to Maine or something, lol.
-
Well, thats just stupid, I can think of lots of pets that hurt people every day, be it intentional or other wise.

Hehe come to WV - we are regulation free ;)

I don't even know if there are laws where I live about that stuff.

I guess I'm glad I moved out of NY and as they say down here, you don't have to shovel heat! I do miss it though, will always be home and I'm getting sick of Florida. I have no idea what kind of laws they have regarding herps here, but they sell them everywhere.
-
Are there any other states that have any laws like that, or is only New York? I would think Hawaii would have some strict regulations, but I really doubt I'll move to hawaii without being rich.
-
Its not only NY, alot of states require or totally deny keeping reptiles of certain types. Seeing as how i'm from MD, i'd better be pretty familiar with these: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/captive.html . Those are the regulations for Maryland. If you do a quick google search you should be able to come up with the specific laws for your state, most of the time from your state's Department of Natrual Resources website.

The rules for IL are pretty standard. No croc's without a permit, no venemous animals without a permit..etc it's what I thought the rules were, except you need a permit for constricting snakes over 6 feet. That's fine, I don't want a snake that will get that size.
