I'm pretty sure that would be a new record.
Cases of 5 ft are rare.

Its prolly not goin to happen but it would be really cool if it did :D

i remember somebody posted a pic of a REALLY big ball python here once.

I remember that picture too, and I still think its a fake.
For example, I can take an adult BP and put it next to a baby BP ... and claim that the baby is actually an adult ... and that the other BP is just gigantic.

A sheriff's deputy with experience handling snakes was dispatched to the scene and corralled the ball python, an African snake that can grow up to six feet in length.
It doesn't actually say that the snake was 6 feet. Six feet is possible ... but extremely rare.

I'm just glad that the snake was okay and returned to its owner, who will hopefully keep a closer eye on it from now on.

    Scary...
Though my neighbor was taking out his trash and he suddenly noticed a 7ft Albino Burmese Python by his foot. We live in the country... I thought I was the only weirdo with snakes. I guess not.

Is it bad that upon seeing a snake like that, I'd immediately start planning where I'd put the cage? ;)

yea me too lol....but I mean if I saw a sign or something that said "missing snake" and I had it I would give it back. Otherwise...finders keepers! lol

I don't know if I'd be able to give back an Albino Ball Python.
Its like finding two thousand dollars.

At least they called someone who could handle it appropriately instead of killing the poor snake, and the owner got it back. I'd say that's a good result all around.

I've read about wild-caught BP's being reported at 6 foot, but then again, I don't know if that from an accurate measurement of a live snake, a "guesstimate" of the length of a live snake, or the highly inaccurate method of measuring the skin removed from a dead snake. A book I have on the "giant" species of snakes (retics, anacondas, burmese, etc.) talked extensively about that problem. It's rare that even "experts" can accurately estimate the size of a live snake, and even taking extreme care to not stretch the skin as it is being removed from a dead snake, the length can stretch by 25% or more.

If they're not careful to avoid stretching the skin, or actually intend to stretch it, it's been documented that the snake's skin can be stretched by 50% or more, as I recall from the book. I'll have to dig it up and post the quote from that section.
