    Pinstripe x Yellow Belly Clutch
    http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/20/aje2epeh.jpg

The parents locked repeatedly from December through February. On May 2nd, the yellow belly female laid 6 lovely eggs.

Here they are a few hours after being laid...

Nice pairing, I'm partial to anything yellowbelly. Good luck. They're getting closer to hatching. Be sure to post pics of the babies.

Thanks! This is what they look like now, on day 48 of incubation. They've really started dimpling over the last week or so... [emoji1]

Day 52 now... everything still looks fine. The eggs are even more dimpled. I want to let them pip on their own but it's getting harder to resist the urge to cut the eggs. [emoji29]

I've heard a few people say that the eggs need to dry out a bit before hatching, because they could drown in the egg if the humidity is too high... is this true? I tried to search for more info but couldn't find much about it. I don't want to screw up right at the end!

If it's day 52 you can cut them or you can wait a little but I cut my first clutch on day 52 recently and they all came out perfectly Healthy. And I'm not too sure but I don't think you want them to dry out

Yeah, I don't think you really want to dry them out. That might make the shells get harder for the babies to cut through. Then again, if you cut, that won't matter.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep the humidity up.

No pips yet. If none of them pip by Saturday, I'll most likely cut the eggs. They'll be on day 57 of incubation by then.

First guy (or gal, haven't checked yet) to pip was completely out of the egg when I got home from work yesterday. Looks like a normal or a yellowbelly. I didn't look closely because it still had a little nub of umbilical cord and I didn't want to mess around with it too much yet.

I did cut the other eggs yesterday. They're all alive but I haven't seen any more snoots poking out yet. Two of them are pinstripes or pinstripe YBs, the rest look like normal or YB.

Another one of the hatchlings came out. A pinstripe with a very busy pattern, lol. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/29/ygymasy8.jpg

The last few hatchlings came out of the egg early this morning. No combos, but the babies all appear healthy. Looks like 2 pinstripes, 2 yellowbellies and 2 normals.

It's interesting to me that the pinstripes are so different than their sire. The hatchlings' patterns are much busier, with lots of spotting, and one has a pretty crazily broken stripe. Their sire has a very clean pattern that I was hoping would carry on to his offspring... I'd still like to pair him with another pinstripe someday, just to see how that clutch turns out.

What does mom's pattern look like? That will affect things too.

    Cute pile of babies! :)

Just took another look at the hatchlings and I guess I miscounted before... I think there's actually 1 yellowbelly, 2 pins and 3 normals.

She has a fair amount of dots on her dorsal, some side connected, some not. So, I definitely think that could affect the dorsal stripe of a pinstripe. Although exactly HOW it would affect it is not quite as obvious as knowing a lighter brighter normal will help produce lighter brighter pastels.

I like busy patterns, so I think those pins are gorgeous anyway. :)

Mom has a fair amount of flames. Bet that helped out the YB!

The first hatchling shed this morning... naturally it was the yellowbelly. She was also the first one to pip and emerged from the egg 2 full days before her lazy siblings.

She has even more flames than her momma!

And of course... the belly. Can't post a yellowbelly without a belly shot. [emoji6]
