Anybody here have Dr Sewards video. I think it is called "Breeding Ball Pythons". It is a little pricey, but I am thinking of getting it anyway because I have heard good things about it and I want to try breeding this year. For those of you that have seen it, do you recommend it? Is it worth the $70 price tag?
Are there any other must have books or videos that I should look into? I want to have a thorough understanding of the process going into it to any offspring the best chances of survival possible.

Dr Sewards video
I would just go download it ......Not that I have ever done that but heard good things =p

I would DEFINATELY recommend it if you are serious about producing awesome clutches. It tells you in detail everything they do in order to breed successfully. I have it, and I have watched it a ton of times.
That's my opinion. :)

If your are serious about breeding why not. Ive ordered one myself as i ive never seen breeding done before. On the other hand, check out The Ball Python Manual book. Mine just arrived yesterday and its pretty thorough book about BP and breeding in captivity.

I have a better idea. Slip a little alcohol in their water dish...
"Hey baby, you come to this tank often?"
"Only to see you. Wow, you're the LONGEST ball python I've ever seen!"
Oh, by the way, I got rich on selling a book about how to get rich. Want one?

Re: Dr Sewards video
Uncool.
Absolutely no soliciting of any bootlegged goods or warez, software or anything of that sort at all. No public trading of pirated materials, kapish?

Re: Dr Sewards video
ya it's just a joke.
i'm just not funny.
-
Re: Dr Sewards video
It's standard practice in most public forums to discourage or delete that sort of discussion as it crops up (joke or not unfortunately) - strictly CYA stuff - no offense intended to ya, lad!
Yeah I know - welcome to your work week, right!

Re: Dr Sewards video
haha well im just a horrible bp.net user aren't i?
first i get it for TALKING IN CAPS ALL THE TIME.
then i say things i shouldn't.
i'm more of a people person than a forum person.
i apologize to everybody.

Re: Dr Sewards video
The video is well worth it. I do not care if you are a new breeder or a vet, there are things in the video that can help anyone become a better breeder and better understand all of the little intricacies involved.

Re: Dr Sewards video
VFT,
I'm sure the big breeders are an excellent source of up to date one on one info but for those not in a position to make purchases from them is it really fair to use up their time with lots of questions?
Sorry, some parts of this thread just rub me the wrong way, maybe it's because I actually know Dr. Seward and one of the Ball Python Manual authors (Dr. Klingenberg).
I've heard some updated books and perhaps even video/DVD are in the works so lets continue to support those who take the time for the one to many distribution of info.

I think it is very fair. For the most part, every "big breeder" that I know is more than willing to spend some time answering questions in order to help promote ball python keeping and breeding. Even if you're not in a position to make a purchase, if you have breeding questions, one day you might be. I may not be a "big breeder" but I get tons of questions every week via phone calls, PM's, and emails and I always take the time to answer every single one. It's all part of the job of marketing and promotion.
Even with all of the DVDs and books, the big breeders are a wealth of valuable info that never makes it to publication. There is only so much detail that you can cram into a general info manual and the stuff that gets dropped on the cutting room floor is sometimes VERY valuable.
I don't know where I'd be without the help of big breeders like NERD, RDR, Kahl, VPI, etc that took/take time to answer any question I've ever had about breeding and husbandry even when I wasn't spending money with them or better yet, when they knew I was spending money with a different breeder!
I think books and DVDs are fine, but without first hand knowledge of real world info from the source there are lots of things you are going to miss out on. Besides, I've always been more of and "hands on" kind of person and not much of a "book worm", so picking up the phone and saying "hey Kev, how do you do this ..." is a much easier way for me to learn than memorizing something out of a book or DVD.
In the end, the "big breeders" are big boys and girls and are perfectly capable of saying "no, I don't have the time right now" or "I'll get back to you as soon as I can”, but in my experience, if you are polite and a little patient they will always make the time for you.

Re: Dr Sewards video
lol @ justcage, plug? Me? Never ;) I do have to agree the Ball Python manual is an outdated pile of cr@p.
Randy Remington, I am sorry if you think I rubbed you the wrong way but I like rubbing my wife not guys. As for asking breeders questions, both Alex Hue and Dan and Colette Sutherland (who just happen to be in your beloved video) have forums for the sole purpose of answering questions. As for supporting them sure you bet buy away you spend your hundred dollars on a DVD and I will buy more snakes ;)

Re: Dr Sewards video
VFT - Sorry, for some reason I thought you where talking about one to one questions. Re-reading your original post I see you where talking about forums which I believe like books and videos are an excellent way to spread info to many people at a time. The forums are probably even better than books and videos in some respects due to how quickly they can get info out. However I still think it's nice when a recognized expert can gather info together in one place like a book, video, or FAQ for users who don't want to start out sorting through all the viewpoints in a public forum.
