    My BP's love me
I know Im going to take a few hits from people who disagree with me on this, but, no one will ever convince me that BP's have no "feelings" for their owners. I dont know if Im just lucky or what, but my Ball Pythons react to me like a puppy or some other sort of pet! When they hear my voice, they come out and try to get out of their tank. I open it, and sit on the floor, and they come and get on my lap! When I take them outside for a "slith", they follow me around the yard. And, after they atre outside for awhile, they enjoy a drink out of the hose! My youngest gives me kisses when I ask him too, and he loves to get wrapped in a towel and a warm blanket when hes through with his bath. I lotion them up with a mild non scented lotion about 3 times a week, and they have the most beautiful flawless "coats" youve ever seen. They stretch out as far as they can to reach me when I put them on the bed...its so cute! Is any of this normal behavior for a Python? My motto is "If you dont treat them like a snake...they wont be one!"(not that theres anything wrongf with that!):)

I would love to see you interacting with your snakes (and vise-versa) with a video too! Sounds really nice :)
Please do post photos and videos if you have - we love to see!

I know my corn snake knows who I am, and I think prefers me to other people. Probably just "comfortable" around me; every time I stick my nose up to her vive she comes out to say hello right back. However, if anyone else does this she hides (if she's already out) or stays hidden. I took her to a photo shoot once, to have her take photos with models, and every time I (and only I) walked by she'd instantly stretch out to me. When we had breaks, I'd hold her and she'd settle right down. Everyone commented on how relaxed she was with me. :P Makes me feel good, that's for sure.

All the best! And looking forward to some photos/videos :)

    P.S.
I will caution against using lotion on your snakes though, simply because of any ingredients that may be harmful for them in the long run - either on their skin or inhaled afterwards. If their husbandry is correct, then sheds and skin should be silky-smooth anyway :)

OP...your snakes don't love you. They tolerate you. They don't have personalities, they have behavioral differences...they are not driven by emotion, they are driven by instinct. They do have some level of intelligence and the ability to learn, but it ain't much...

Not sexist, honest. are you saying men and women think alike?
I never said it was good or bad just different, and that's good.
Think about your response to the statement and wonder is it emotionally
    or logic driven.
You might also have to factor in that I might be trying to stir the pot!

I have known men that run just as equally on emotions. I completely disagree with you if you're trying to say that men think more logically than women. Working 7 years in public safety has taught me that quickly. I promise men do not use their brains any more than women.

I'm pretty sure trying to stir the pot is an emotional response to disagreeing that ones snake has feelings for them. If you were thinking logically you would have just stated it like sho instead of throwing out a sexist comment. Her sex has nothing to do with the fact that she thinks her snake loves her. I have seen countless posts from men stating the same thing. Maybe not to the same degree as lotioning them up, but in general.

How about Eric Alan, who agreed with my "emotional" response. Are you saying that his response was more logical than mine because he is a male?

Aaaaaand to not stray too far off topic. OP, I have to agree that snakes do not come with complex emotions like love. As much as I'd like to think that my snakes love me and care about me, chances are they only recognize me because of my scent. I can back that up by saying my female boa was very friendly and gentle towards me before I left for basic military training, she and all my other reptiles stayed with a friend for 9 months, and when I got her back she has been evil ever since. If she loved me, she wouldn't bite me. But she's a snake, and she bites me. I also agree that you have no clue what effects this lotion can have on your snake and I wouldn't recommend that at all. But, snuggle away while they let you.

You feed your snakes and for that they tolerate you. They love you the same as the store you buy your groceries at loves you. You provide something and for that they are happy.

Ah. I had a witty comment all ready to go about how much my groceries love me... and then I realized I misread your comment.

But, with that, I will say that I am happy to force my snakes to spend time with me. And I love them. And like the creepy one-sided romance that it is, that's enough for me.

I was on the verge of understanding your comment before you changed it. I took it that groceries = grocery stores..then I thought about small grocery stores in very small towns...they would depend on you to live thus possibly have some love for you. Luckily you changed it before my head exploded out of confusion :D

    Needing vs Feeling emotions
Maybe it isnt that we as humans attribute human emotions to animals, so much as animals attribute mammalian emotions to us! They do seem to understand what we are saying, and sometimes, it seems, thinking, in alot of cases. Maybe we are just acting instictually, and the oldest of the brains...The Reptilian Brain...knows this, as well as the outcome. Therefore, their reactions are quick and simplified. That doesnt mean, however, that they dont feel emotions. It just means that they dont need emotions.

Snakes are not fury animals...the only time a reptile is mentioned in that article is a rat snake that "befriended" a hamster. And just because a snake doesn't eat a hamster doesn't mean they're suddenly friends. That's a manufactured story the news outlets feed to idiots...

However, the animal park received backlash from the public, who claimed the heartwarming story was merely fabricated for commercial purposes.

Again if all your animals love you, these actions can be replicated time and time again. Such as the kissing or calling them to come to you in the part, or any of the other things you said!

A simple cellphone can capture video and post it to youtube to show and disprove everyone! Rather then a silly article.

And as for putting lotion them WHAT who advised or where did you read this should ever happen! Thats like me shampoo'ing my dog on a daily basis, putting Hair styling gel in there fur, and painting there toe nails. ALL which are bad for the animal.

Id advise against lotion on the snake LOL

Apart from daily shampoos, I do know people who do this with their dogs, and I am acquaintances with someone who is a Salon Manager at a PetSmart. I think it's silly, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it if the products are not harmful to the animal (which includes them inhaling and eating them as well). I myself don't treat my pets like people, but that doesn't mean others won't. Just a pretty bold statement saying all of that is inherently bad for the animal, when there are products out there that are not (or whatever).
Not saying I disagree really -- I definitely won't be lotioning-up my snakes!

I was very blunt, but apart from that im saying her using a mild lotion for humans was semi equivalent of using human products on dogs!

I agree - :OSTOP lotioning up your :snake:snake... their skins are not the same as ours. If you must put something on them use a reptile product like shed-aid or something....
You're probably doing more harm than good with the lotion...:tears:

I Totally agree with you!! I got my very first snake about a month ago and shes already my baby! I can put her down on my bed to explore and she loves it, but always comes back to me. When i first did, she hung on to me with her little tail and wouldnt let go while she explored. If someone else held her, she would ball up and hide, but if i put my hands out she would come back to me!
If i talk to her while holding her she'll turn her head and look at me.
I can even pet her little head and she yawns and presses it towards me! She'll even nose me! Shes the sweetest, best first bp i couldve asked for! She even comes to me right after eating! I feed her in a seperate tank and i can move her without any hint of aggression.
We sit and she'll curl up in my lap while i watch tv and nap like a puppy.
I know they may not show emotion like most mammals but i can definitely say they have personality! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/21/rage5apa.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/21/equme5yn.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/21/y8edy7av.jpg
