    Maggie the moose.
Hi folks. I purchased this girl a couple years back, as a Genetic Blackback.
She just laid us 9 huge eggs, and still weighs over 3000g :O

Now, to me, she doesn't look much like the examples of Blackbacks I have seen online.
So, I ask you, does she look like a nice reduced normal? A blackback? Something else entirely?

Eggs will be ripe in 14 days, so we shall have more information soon

I'm not sure I'd call that a blackback. She actually has several spots along her dorsal, I counted over a dozen. What is different is that they are mostly all connected to the side spots. So it is sort of like a banded pattern, but I don't see a single place where it connects on both sides to make a true band.

Whatever she is, she is beautiful. What was she bred to? Pls post pics of the babies when they are out!

She was paired with a Pewter, and I certainly will post the babies.

I would consider her a reduced pattern more than a black back...she is definitely nice looking...:gj:

Thanks for the opinions folks. It seems pretty unanimous. I think I'll just stop calling her a Blackback haha.
    "Reduced pattern normal" it is!

She reminds me of a girl I used to have...sold her off years ago and have regretted it ever since...

Geez - it's been awhile since a normal made me do a double take. That's a nice looking girl you've got there!

    Cut 9 eggs today.
Big fat babies, but nobody quite ready to pop out. Another day or two, and we should have some new babies!:snake::snake::snake::snake::snake::snake::snake::snake:

We have noses! 3 babies working their way out. Should have some new noodles in a couple days.
A couple will be pastels, fingers crossed, one may be a pewter, and the rest are pretty brown :/ cinnys and normals. One did look like he had some nice reduced pattern, but pulled back into the egg after I got the flashlight on him.

Ok folks. Here are our two favorites so far. The clutch was a bit of a let down.
2 Cinnamon, 2 Pastel, 3 dark normals, and 2 light looking normals.

These two cinnies definitely inherited some of mommas genes. Really nice reduced pattern on their backs, but, as we decided earlier. NOT Blackbacks:rolleye2:

Really nice! The funny thing is... although I'm one of the ones who said I wouldn't call the mom a black back, I might say that these cinny babies are. The one is for sure, at least as far as describing its looks. I can't really say for sure if it is genetic. But, since mom was sold to you as a genetic black back, maybe she is, but is just a "low quality black back". I wouldn't worry too much about her "low quality" if she makes babies like this!

I'd love to see the rest of the clutch.

    Thanks Casey,

We are pretty excited about the first shed coming up. Like I said, 4 of them were normals, nothing reduced about them at all. However, of the normals, two were dark like normals tend to be, while two were very light in color. should be fun to see how they color up.

Those two cinnies are great though. I will post pics after they shed.

Now see, I'm the odd one out. I would call mom a black back. With a lot of blushing. And those cinny babies prove it. What sweet, sweet babies.

Thanks Gale, let me tell you, every one of these babies is large, and snappy! Ready to kill right out of the egg :gj:

Here is the post shed on the better of the two cinnies
