    No.

Pick a less aggressive animal as a prey item - live ferrets are way too heavily armed and fast to make it a sensible idea.

YES you do NOT want to use ferrets as a food source.
I will put my money on the ferret.

I thought they should have a varied diet ... a ferret has an optimal body composition of predators

Ferrets are weasels which prey on snakes of pretty good size. Good luck with that you may lose your snake. And feeding a ferret is like feeding a dog to a snake.. Their really smart creatures that should not be used as food. They not natural prey ethier.

Without going too much into my personal opinions on using ferrets as food (I've kept ferrets my whole life and am the proud owner of two currently, so I have to agree with piedpython), this is a really really terrible idea. Have you ever been bitten by a ferret? Raising them from babies, before they are trained out of biting, they have incredibly strong jaws, and it's very hard to get them to let go of something if they are determined to hang on to it. They can be very good at killing and I have friends who have had ferrets bring wild lizards or snakes to them that they've caught around the house. Even between my male ferret and my three year old boa constrictor, I'd place my money on the ferret (not that they are ever given the chance).

Ferrets are also able to avoid snake strikes very well and keep attacking until their prey is tired and weak. Like Shann said their jaws are powerful and sharp and can easily kill a snake 5+ feet.

    Are you really being serious?!

A ferret will kill your snake. No doubt about it.

I had a woman post on a ferret forum asking about the safety of her foster ferrets if she placed them in a home with ball pythons. She wanted someone to justify her belief that the potential adopter was unsuitable because of the potential danger to the ferrets. I basically laughed at her and said that the balls would be the ones in danger. Not the other way around.

Also, $100-150 food bill for one meal sounds expensive.....

This ferret belongs to a member of my ferret group. She goes hunting with hers.

The ferret will tear your snake apart :( I say that as nicely as possible. It shouldn't ever, ever be considered.

If it does have a defect bad enough to cull I don't see a problem feeding a dead ferret to your snake if you trust the source. Sounds like you don't know the source though and are just assuming it has a defect. I wouldn't feed live for many of the reasons already listed.

    Re: food ferret
It would be better before feeding to stun or kill?no to hurt the snake? and how?

    Re: food ferret
I also advise euthanasia before feeding the ferret off, there is no way it's safe to live-feed a ferret to a snake. They are literally built for hunting, your snake would end up being the feeder. As for culling method, I'm not sure what is advisable, since they are larger than rats, I don't know if CO2 would be effective as a humane euth procedure.

I hope you wouldn't be paying more than a few bucks per pound of ferret, too. paying pet prices for feeders is wasteful, imo.

about the death of the ferrets should be the same as rats. but my snake eats only animals with a little move. better would be a reversal just do not know how.

    Are you serious?
You have already been told the its a bad idea and you are still contemplating it.
Now you are wanting to abuse the ferret before you try and do a bad idea.
I suggest you might want to think about your next post before our TOS gets violated.

Sarcasm does not sit well on you, Borat..............

    ................How to kill a ferret:

    1. Teach the ferret to read.

    2. Make him read this thread.

How to tame aggressive ferret? how to know the sex of a ferret?

If the place they pee is about half-way up their stomach, it's a boy. If it's near the same place they poop it's a girl.

Taming? Patience and time, just like with a snake. Also food. Find out what the little guy (or girl) likes and give it so you're presence becomes associated with good stuff.

    Female.

Swollen vulva indicates that she in in heat or has Adrenal Disease.
Does your ferret look like that(google img)?
If she is in heat, you need to get her a hormonal injection (Jill Jab) to bring her out of season. Otherwise, she will die of Aplastic Anemia.
The other option is to breed her with a male. Preferably a vasectomized male.

As for adrenal disease, it's a form of adrenal glad cancer. No cure, but you can help clinical signs and reduce the tumor growth with a Deslorelin Implant.

But easy way to tell sex is if your ferret as a 'belly button'.
If yes, it's a male. The 'belly button' is his penis.
