So the mice I usually buy have been recalled....
Okay... So I discovered today that the frozen arctic mice I usually buy have been recalled due to salmonella poisoning. I talked to the workers at Petsmart and they said they did not know when they would have more mice. It's been a good 2 1/2 weeks since my guy has ate. He hasn't eaten since he was going into shed and all, so I am out of mice. I do not want to buy Petco frozen mice because every time I tried to use them they all exploded. My BP has never eaten a live mouse. So my question is, can I offer him a live mouse or should I just wait until they get more of my mice I usually buy? I know my little guy is hungry because he has been a bit grumpy lately and I even got my first bite out of it! Thank you :)

Find a local pet shop or breeder that sells feeders and ask if they'll euthanize for you.

Or you could buy a bunch of live ones and euthanize and freeze them yourself with co2, it'll probably end up being cheaper than arctic mice anyways.

Local pet shop or breeder is always the way to go imo because chain store rip you off on rodent prices.

The only place I know of around here that has live feeders is Petco and I don't believe they will kill them for you.. but I will have to look around and see if I can't find a shop here that breeds mice. You don't think he would eat it alive?

How old is your snake? Most snake transition over to live seamlessly, though I don't like pitting live mice in with snakes, they're little devils.

Check craigslist and look for local Facebook groups.
Also do a google search for pet shops in your areas and call around.

Problem with this is that I don't have a place to store a bunch of frozen ones since I am with my aunt and uncle at the moment. Otherwise I would love this idea. The arctic mice really are over priced

I am not exactly sure how old he is but if I had to guess maybe 1 1/2-2 years..? Yeah I have heard putting live mice with snakes is sometimes dangerous for the snake because they tend to fight back.
I will check that out too. Hopefully I can find something close by.

I used to buy 5-6 at a time and euthanize them. It would last me all month and it really doesn't take up too much space in the freezer.
My dad used to freak out about the dead rodents in the freezer, but I started putting them in brown lunch bags and labeling what they are.

Now I breed rats, so there could be 20 in there at any given time lol.

If they are really that paranoid, look around at yard sales, my grandma got a small freezer for $20 one time.

I had some artic mice pinkies that probably were in the recall but my breaker tripped and i lost what i had left which was less that a box. Then i saw a post on facebook about the recall.

What do you mean by exploded. I like the gourmet rodents brand from petco. They have a better price too! Artic mice are expensive in my area. I am however goin to the bulk packs b from the frozen rodent guy at the repticon to get a even better price hopfully cuz the new kingsnake eats like my kids, everything in sight.

Like they quite literally exploded. Guts came out and all.. it was such a mess. I had a picture at one time but I think I deleted it. I might give them a go again because I know my BP is hungry and I don't want him going hungry.

    That's a good idea too.
Do you think my guy could last until the weekend? I always get home so late and he has to stay at my shop so I have to run to petco, run home, throw the rest in the freezer and then run back to the shop to feed him. Plus you add all the rush hour traffic of Indianapolis lol.

That seems like it was maybe was squashed somehow. I have had alittle blood from the small rats i feed mine. Its usually out of their nose or mouth and it is only a small amount. I warm up the rat in a old deli meat container with hot water and since i usually get the 3 pack the rar is in the water.

They expect to re-stock in 4 to 6 weeks. Just feed a live or snap it's neck buy pulling the tail and securing the neck base.

Here is a better quality supplier and cheaper if you buy bulk.

I was gonna order from Laynelabs, till I saw it would be $42 to ship 10 mice......... The price for the mice is really great ($8.50 for 10 med mice), but shipping is a bit much for me. I'm gonna try Petco's brand of F/T mice till Petsmart gets Arctic Mice again.

That's why you buy in bulk online. Skipping with dry ice and the weight isn't cheap.

You really need to place a big order if you are going to make a online purchase to make up for shipping.

You could also try Big Cheese Rodent Factory :) the shipping may be a little cheaper but I'm not sure.
