Should I hold out on feeding my BP?
Hey guys, I've been visiting this Forum for a while, and I couldn't wait to join, so I just decided to do it now. I'm getting my very first Ball Python on Wednesday. He's getting shipped to me on the perfect day... or so I thought. The breeder let me in on a little information regarding the BP. They responded to my questions, but one stood out. The BP gets fed regularly on Wednesdays, and that's the day he's showing up to my house.

My question is: Should I hold out on feeding him just so he can get comfortable in his new surroundings, or should I go along with his feedings as scheduled? If I shouldn't feed him, should I wait until next week or feed him this coming Friday?

Thank you guys. And I look forward to posting pictures of my new BP once he gets here! :)

You can offer food if you want, but he may or may not eat. It wont hurt to just wait and give him time to settle in a week or so. And Welcome to the forum!

Mine weren't shipped to me but both ate the same day I picked them up. Good luck with your new guy. If you try and he refuses, give him a week to settle in then try again.

Your going to hear a million different opinions on this topic. For what it's worth, I always offer food day one. 99% of the time they take the meal. Best of luck!

I always offer on the next scheduled feeding day, even if it's delivery day. It won't hurt either way. Some will eat while others won't. If you have a rat give it a try. Otherwise wait until next week.

Good luck on the new addition!

I always feed the same day, just give the snake an hour or two to settle in. I noticed that snakes that feed right away are always great eaters. Those that refuse tend to be the finicky ones....

I've had some snakes eat the same day, others need a bit of time to settle.

So, what it boils down to for the OP is, do you have a regular feeding day for all your snakes? Or is this your first one? And if you don't have a regular feeding day, do you want to feed mid-week, or would the weekend be more convenient? Because if between work/family/school/life it's just easier to feed one day versus another, then start by offering food on whatever day is better for you.

Thanks guys! Decided to go ahead and feed him. He attacked as they all do, but he tried swallowing the mouse from the stomach! Haha, he finally got it down and he's relaxing under his hide with a full belly.

And again the "let them settle in" proved false. Thanks for sharing.

Just like in the other thread......
The snakes are fine and we are stressing!
I guess as long as we worry about them that means they are more than likely being taken care of very well!!
