My custom tank!
Ok so after lots of planning and research, I decided to built my own tank! I built it out of melamine. It is 36 wide by 16 deep and 18 high. I put a pro products RHP in (thanks bob). I have a white led light for daytime and a 3 color red, blue and green led for night viewing. I made acrylic sliding doors (1/4 inch. I'm so happy with how it came out. I'm giving it a few days before I transfer my girl into it! Let me know what you guys think....http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/04/buramedy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/04/yhe6y5er.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/04/u6ydedy5.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/04/a3usumud.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/04/ze2ybesy.jpg

It looks very nice! I don't know how big your girl is, but you may want to add some more clutter (maybe some fake plants), especially if she's small.

Re: My custom tank!
well I did buy that, but when i went to install it, it was open. so, i ran to walmart and bought a car LED kit. it was $14. It changes colors with the push of a button. I also bought a converter from radio shack because the LED kit was an a/c car plug. the radio shack converter accepts that plug, then plugs into the regular outlet.

Re: My custom tank!
Lowes and/or home depot to build it using melamine. Its what they both sell to use as shelving. Home depot also carries it in 4x8 sheets.
My diy enclosure is here and i have a video for it.

Great Job!
I really like the front sliding doors.

looks amazing! What size/wattage RHP did you end up having to go with to generate a hot spot with it being 18inches tall?

Re: My custom tank!
Anyway you could further on how you went about the acrylic sliding doors? such as what material and hardware you used

I bought a square piece of plastic lumber. 2 inches by 2 inches. Tge length was double the width of your tank opening (cut in half, one piece for the top, one piece for the bottom). Then using a table saw, I set the depth of the blade to aboit 1/4 inch (bottom rail) and made a cut about 1/2 in on the rail. Then made a few more passes to widen that track until it was wide enough for glass to fit slighty loose. Repeat steps for another track about 1/4 away from the first one. Now you have 2 tracks 1/4 deep. For the top rail, do it the same way but make the tracks an inch deep so you can slide doors up to remove them.
I hope this helped.

I took a section of melamine cut to fit the front and cut out the center to the size area that i wanted my sliding doors to be.

Re: My custom tank!
It's 2 inches. Plenty off depth to keep being in. I wouldn't change a thing. Works perfect
