Purchasing online?
Okay, so I'm wondering about everyone's experience purchasing their bps online as opposed to expos? I've looked at various breeders sites and am wondering if that is another option I should consider if I don't find what I want at local expos.. Thanks!

Re: Purchasing online?
I have always had a good experience buying online. Just do your home work on them. There are also some great people here to buy from as well.

Ive done plenty of business online with reptiles, never had a bad experience yet. I used to raise cornsnakes(many of which I got online), but now have leos and all my leos are from various online breeders.
Recently got two little turtles from a Florida breeder and they are perfect too.

Re: Purchasing online?
I've gotten two snakes online and things went great! As long as you buy from the right people everything goes according to plan :) always check the Board of Inquiry on Fauna Classifieds to see if the person your buying from is good to do business with or not.

I just got my first mail-order snake, and the whole thing was a wicked cool experience. I ordered Wednesday, confirmed shipping yesterday, and got the snake a few minutes ago. It was almost too easy - definitely nothing to discourage me doing it again.

I'll take some real pictures of the little guy in a few days. He was understandably pretty freaked out. No biting or musking, but reading to crawl into a hide and be warm.

There are some excellent sellers online, and there are a very few scammers, criminals, etc. Do your research, check feedback, ask for references, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
I've had four visits from the FedEx Fairy and every time the process was very smooth. The only thing I do differently from most is I pick up at the hub as my packages are usually ready when it opens at 8:30 a.m., so it cuts a few hours from the snake's in-transit time.

Re: Purchasing online?
Online is the best way to find the exact snake you want. Just check the boi on the seller. I've had 5 of mine flown in. Every transaction went fine.

Re: Purchasing online?
I as well have purchased "the one" online. I'm very picky about the morph quality I add to my collection so I do research the seller. There are also, many great breeders who are small time and have very little reviews but offer quality and guaranteed animals that are just as good if not better than some big name breeders.

I have bought at least eight reptiles on line. So far all the transactions have been great.

Re: Purchasing online?
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Are there any breeders you recommend from personal experience?

Depends on what you are looking for.

Re: Purchasing online?
I'm looking to get a ball python morph. Not completely sure which type yet. I really like genetic stripes and lesser combos but really I'm just looking for some interesting color/patterns... This will be my first snake and I've been researching it to death as my husband says.

This is my guy, since I had to move him to fix his thermostat probe. He came from BHB. They have TONS of balls and morphs, but I know there have been some questions about mites from them at some points in the past.

Research is good. The reason I ask is, some of the smaller breeders work more with certain morphs. Like if you want an enchi, I would look to our own Freakie_frog. It you want albino, Mike Bell. Fire, our own angellady. Hypo, I'd go to Lyfoti (also here on forums).

I like the pewterblasts, hypos, different pastels and mojaves, spinner combos and the genetic stripe.

Re: Purchasing online?
Ive bought probably 90% of my reptiles online mainly dealing with ben siegel and his fb auctions. There not many breeders local to me so local pickings are slim or very over priced. Talking about crap quality albino males for $400 and most of the local stuff is all males for female prices. Also like others have stated do you research and you shouldnt have any issues. Ive never had any DOA's except for a tarantula that i was refunded for

I've bought 10 from online sources so far and have never had a problem. I find a snake I like, see who is selling it, and look them up. That's probably the most important thing, looking at what other buyers have said about them. If there is nothing but good things said about them, go for it. But also don't get blinded by how much you want the animal; if there are questionable things being said about the seller, be ready to either move on or take the chance that you may have found a scammer.
When I was in the process of buying my clown, I asked the guy if it was possible to hold on to her a little bit longer because the weather was very hot both here and there. Not only did he agree to keep her an extra month for me but he also fed her for free(I was expecting a 350g snake and ended up with a 500g one lol). So there are some really, really great people out there, you just have to look :D
