My new arrival
I was finally able to talk my wife into letting me get a 2nd snake and he arrived today. He is Pyro, my new flame brooks king. He is a 2013 hatchling.

Re: My new arrival
Sunday is feeding day and Pyro took a pinkie with no trouble. Should i offer him a second one? He seemed to be loonking around for another. He weighs around 28 grams and he is about 15-17 inches long.
I will try and get better pics on wed. when i get home from work.

Re: My new arrival
Feeding day and someone would not let go to eat. After the 3rd, he was still searching my hand for more while i was trying to get him to let go and go into a hide.

First feeding of a fuzzy and he "lost it". He bit himself once trying to find it.

So he finally found it.

i cleaned pyro's tank today and added some fake plants that i picked up on clearance so he would have alittle more than a plastic fire helmet, paper towl tube, and hot side hide. He loves his paper towel tubes.

Re: My new arrival
Pyro has cleared up and is about to shed so he was weighed. He is growing! I dont really bother with length but he seems to gaining size over length atm.
He got a 2 fuzzy mice meal today for breaking 100g's.

Re: My new arrival
Freshly shed and now weighing 143g. Pyro has started sitting like this when it gets closer to feeding day! He also thinks he is a cobra and periscopes when I take him out to feed him. Will try to get a pic of that.

Pyro is growing well. Very nice looking King.

Re: My new arrival
Pyro shed today so he was weighed and he has broke 200g!
I am waiting on a new rodent shipment to arrive this week. It has the rats that Pyro will be switched to from mice.
He never skips a meal, is really easy going, and curious.

Re: My new arrival
Well I thought I was going to have trouble because I have switched Pyro over to rats. At first he was not having anything to do with the rat. I got him to strike the rat and that changed his mind.
Even with a big meal he wandered around his enclosure for a while. I also had just cleaned it so I guess he had to inspect things. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...bbcd1523de.jpg

Re: My new arrival
Pyro is a very nice King. You'll probably see a nice growth spurt now that he's on rats. My Kings really bulked up when I had them on rats but then they both took long food breaks so I switched them back to mice.

So yours went off feed for a bit, how long? Any idea why they did this?
With my work schedule, I feed him the day before I go to work and that works out to him being feed every 5 days. The rats are the right size to make a small lump and I only have to feed him one. I was feeding him 4 pinkie mice to use up the mice so I could order the rats.

I'm not sure what made them shut down on rats. Looking back in my records they started eating rat weaners in mid June and ate them through mid July then they both started refusing rats for (3-5) consecutive feedings. I offered mice again and they both switched back on. I probably could have waited them out and not offered mice anymore but I figured I'll just give them what they prefer to eat. My kings are a little larger than Pyro, (450g & 550g each) so now I feed them (2) large mice or (1) jumbo mouse every 7 days. Both of my bulls will still eat rats with no hesitation. Hopefully you won't have any issues :).

Re: My new arrival
Still growing. Pyro will eat rats but I am thinking he prefers the
mice. I am also trying my skills at building the foam fixtures and I am going to try and turn this into an oak tree stump hide. We shall see.

Re: My new arrival
I am learning to do the foam background and I made this to be a tree stump hide. I want to use quikcrete to coat it. I just don't know which quikcrete to get. I have asked other places and everyone want to help with what they use but I want to use quikcrete because I have a large build that this tree stump my test/learn how to do it piece. So if anyone happens to know which bag or quikcrete to use, pleade let me know.
Pyro she'd again and is almost about to break the 300 mark. I held a white sided Brooks the other day at the local pet store and that Brooks was about as carefree as Pyro and the white sided was probably only about a month old. Brooks kings so far see to be an awesome snake, I know mine is.

Re: My new arrival
Use the Quikcrete mortar mix. Just try to find the one that does to have sand or little sand. It works best!![emoji106]

Re: My new arrival
Is this the quikcrete mortar mix you speak of? Gonna put it in the empty cat litter pale cuz the bag sucks. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/04...be641c45c8.jpg

Re: My new arrival
Yeah that's the good stuff. Should work good for ya! Just do 3-4 thin layers and let the set up real good before applying more.

Re: My new arrival
You probably know this, but just in case, keep in mind that concrete/mortar has to wet cure for about a month before it stops leaching chemicals. Should be easy with the log though, just submerge it in a bucket of water for a while and forget about it.

I did not know that. I have seen some talk about this but it was never in much detail and most was for fish tanks and getting the water back to normal before adding fish. So what should I use on a foam background fixed in the enclosure that can not be submerged? It seems that some just cover a foam background in quikcrete, seal it and that's it.

It's true that it's most important in aquariums and humid, planted tanks because it affects the pH of the water/soil. If your set-up is going to be very dry maybe it's not as much of an issue? It put me off taking the grout/cement route on an enclosure I'm working on, but mine is going to be planted. I'm no expert, but it might be worth a little extra research if you're worried about it. I know you can cure stuff in an enclosure by keeping a wet towel or whatever over the feature and spraying it down once in a while.

Re: My new arrival
Howdy Fireman- How's Pyro doing with those rats? Does he eat them exclusively now? Neither of my two kings will eat them consistently but will take them intermittently. They definitely prefer mice and they'll chicks as well. Has he broken the 300g mark?
