Gorgeous girl, if it proves genetic, you should name it doubloon, cuz it's like little gold pieces.

Very interesting looking snake! Did you get her as a "normal" and did she appear this dark when she was younger?
  • 04-18-2014, 12:21 PM

Purchased as a het Genetic Stripe.
looked mostly normal when she was younger, has gotten darker and darker with every shed.

Amazing looking girl. It's like she has most of her pattern on a dimmer switch and decided she'd turn on a few lights. Can't wait to see the babies she makes.

    Thanks folks!
Here is a picture from Thursday, next to a normal female. This pic was taken in super high light, and doesn't do her darkness justice.

And I thought she looked impressive even before the comparison pic....

One thing I was thinking about, and I hope you have too. Since you said she looked mostly normal when she was younger, how sure are you that you'll even know if any of her hatchlings show this trait? Do you plan to hold them all back until they've got some growth on them?

    Hi Casey,
You raise a good question. Fortunately I have plenty of space to grow out a full clutch, and I do plan on holding them back, at least long enough to prove or disprove her genetics. I am not expecting a large clutch, possibly 5 eggs.
I wasn'tt even expecting to breed her this year, but she put on size so well, that I couldn't resist when we discovered her bf was producing plugs.

    :confusd:Who knows. :confusd:

Cinnamon pewter or black pewter? Either one could make some GORGEOUS babies with that dark girl, although it might possibly muddy the waters for figuring out if she passes that darkness on.

I wonder how it'll combine with pastel?

How long until the eggs hatch?

I believe he's a Cinny pewter. Purchased from Fred Kick about a year ago. Who knows what will pop out, she might not even prove to be het gs.:tears:

I'm expecting her to LAY within the next 30 days.

Oh. I either missed or forgot when you mentioned she's supposed to be het GS. That's exciting!

Tell her to hurry up already! I want to see her babies! I think she's one of the most exciting dinkers out there (that I know of, at least).

There are a lot of cool dinkers on here for sure.

I told her to hurry up this am, but she looked like she might strike at me, so I closed her tub.

WOW....let me just pick my jaw up off the floor here.

Shes a real stunner, for a split second there I thought MOJAVE GHI! But that's an amazing normal for sure, I'd love to have her in my collection for some dark morph projects. I'll be following this thread so hopefully we'll be seeing some baby pictures in here! Maybe even a similar baby for sale, fingers crossed.

We're on the edge of our seats here, Fancy.

Shes going into what will be her Pre-Lay shed now, and is looking very fat.

As for the babies, we are scratching our heads.
Chances are, the trait may not exhibit itself right away. When we purchased this girl, she didn't look like this. The smokey-ness of her belly was there, and some dark coloration on her sides, however, it has gotten higher, and higher with each shed, until all that remained of her original pigmentation is the dorsal highlight you see here. So, it could take time for the babies to change color the same way? :please::confusd::D

Thought this would be a helpful way of illustrating the color change.

I remember seeing a thread about somebodys adult normal suddenly getting a lighter colored head that starts traveling down the animal with every shed, pretty much the reverse of what seems to be happening here. Maybe you just have a one off animal with a harmless condition, I'm not about to bet money that this is genetic but that's a beautiful dark girl and I really hope it proves out for you!

On a side note, the day after laying, she went right back on feed! Took 2 small rats like they were nothing.
