    Climbing snake "massage" feeling?
My 650g Mojave yellow belly likes to climb up and sit on my shoulders. Sometimes he sits there and moves his muscles like he's trying to massage my neck.

what is he doing exactly? He never constructs enough to hurt me or act like he's trying to eat me or anything.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I have no idea what they're doing...:)

I love when my big normal male does this! I think because our neck is so warm they are just trying to get all the heat they can so they do their weird massagey thing lol. That's all I can think of :p

I could use him right about now...sitting here staring at computer screens for 12 hours at a stretch is not doing my neck any favors...

    I know that feeling. :/.

luckily Thor is friendly and only ever wants to be on my shoulders. I get away with being snake massaged. Ahaha.

My little guy does this too. I think he is trying to hold on! He sometimes wraps around my neck and hooks his tail onto himself. Very odd feeling, kind of tight as well (obviously he can't/won't hurt me - just hanging on for dear life)!

I thought someone once told me it's how they pull heat off of us? I notice my girls always hang out on my neck when cold and go into masseuse mode! :)

Another reason I can't understand why non-herpers don't like snakes... My dog has yet to come over and massage my neck, I'm just saying. ;)

Mine do it also. I think they're just adjusting their balance.

I always thought it was the moisture on my skin that didn't allow them to move properly. He almost feels stuck to my neck. I do appreciate the message, though. :)

Haha mine does this too! I thought it was him trying to scratch an itch or something at first. It makes sense that they would do this to pull heat off our necks though.

My vote is they are nervous at the height and lack of friction on your skin (think about how much easier for scales to hold on to bark vs skin) so they are trying to get a better grip.

My dog is a great foot warmer but that isn't too helpful when it comes to neck aches. :p. So, I'm totally with you on that one!

The grip thing actually makes total sense. I generally don't walk with them on my neck, so I don't scare them too much. If they're up there, I make sure to be sitting down so they don't feel too high up or out of control.

I would think it's a heat thing since mine would lay on me and wiggle in place while I was laying down as well.

But as a person who dances with her snakes on her...they never do this when we're moving...usually, I'm stationary/sitting. The one constant I've noticed is it's when it's cold they do it.

Mine does it a lot. Usually when he is losing his grip on my arm, neck, hair etc. I generally readjust so he isn't struggling too much.

I personally think they display that certain behavior when their losing grip. On another note. Rubbing against the skin causes friction which gives off heat. And we all know heat rises.
