    Building vs. Ovulation
At first I thought it would be hard to tell the difference... :P

I thought she was getting close when she started to build and got pretty thick, so I took a picture every day to see progress and she finally ovulated today! Here's the pics in order:

This picture was taken this morning (the famous bowl wrap let me know it was coming soon!!): https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...84954186_n.jpg
Then 5 hours later, I took this one:

The countdown starts :D Thanks for looking!

congrats. please take photos of the after ovy too. i want to see the progress as she nears egg laying. mine is done with ovy and i'm quite concerned with the drastic reduction in girth. mine looks even smaller than when she started building.

What exactly do you look for to find ovulation? And can you describe what the "building" part is. Also do these apply to all snakes or just BPs?
Just new to the breeding side of information.

Building is just the female developing follicles. She'll start to look heavier in the tail end of her body. Ovulation when these follicles are fertilized and she will swell up in one portion of the body (you can see in my pics above). Here's a site with some good info and pictures. http://ballpython.ca/gallery/breeding/

Not sure about other snakes though!

Couple of update pics and a question: At what point will I be able to make out the eggs as bumps (if at all) and will I be able to tell how many are coming?

soory i was not able to see this reply right way. thanks. about two weeks prior to laying, i saw that my snake regained the girth, but lower down on her body.

mine already laid eggs 1 week ago. i did not see any obvious lumps, but shed had that tell tale ridged back.

About 2 weeks after they ovy, they will shed.

The ballpark timeframe is that she will lay about 30 after post ovy shed. I watch the spine about 3 weeks after they shed. They get what I call a "razorback". The spine will have a very sharp egde to it, and they are generally within a few weeks of laying.
