    Heating Tubs.
I am picking up two rescue snakes tomorrow (I was told about the situation today, so I have had no time to prepare) and I am unable to wait for any heat tape or a quality UTH to come in.
So, I picked up two ZooMed UTH's and a ZooMed thermostat. Now, I know these are not the best things that I could be using but will they work as a temporary fix until I can order the proper, quality things that I need?

Also, I know that you aren't supposed to use ZooMed UTH's with plastic tanks... Is there any way around this? Could I stick it to a piece of glass and put the tub over the glass? I know I can't just leave the adhesive paper on it... That worries me way too much.

Any help would be appreciated... Like I said, the ZooMed's are only for up to two weeks, until I get paid and can get the quality items that I need for my new babies.

    1. yes they should work. im partial to exoterra UTHs myself. but you should be fine in the short term.

    2. yes, sticking the UTH to a piece of glass should work.

    good luck. :gj:

    Thank you so much! :D.
I'm just so scrambled from running around all day, trying to get things ready for these two unexpected arrivals. O.o

Ive used those store bought zoomed UTH's under a plastic tub before with no problems. In fact that's what I used for years before moving to all racks.

What I did was use A/C duct foil tape and taped the uth straight down to the tub. Those zoomed thermostats are junk, thats what I'd replace first. With a good thermostat those UTH's should be fine on the plastic tubs.

If I wasn't so short on time, I would have gotten a quality thermostat. :/.

Stupid people threatening to euthanize their snakes...

I understand. Was just saying thats what I'd get first. Most of mine are herpstats, those are really awesome. But I do have a couple hydrofarms. Those are the lowest quality I will go.

The Zoomed UTH's are fine to use with plastic tubs as long as you have them hooked to a T-stat.
I use them on a few stand alone tubs that I have.

While the T-stat you have isn't ideal, it should work alright temporarily.
Just keep an eye on your temps.

I just looked up hydrofarm thermostats.
How would you use one with a power strip to monitor multiple UTH's?

Attach the power strip to the Thermostat. Then attack the UTHs to the power strip.
This will only work as long as the UTHs are exactly the same. The thermostat can only regulate the heating elements evenly if they are the same.

So, I would plug the thermostat in and then my two zoomeds?

Sorry, just trying to make sure I'm clear before I break something. ahaha.

I am so piggy backing on this since I am about to go to tubs, and have these questions, but:

Thermostat into the wall, powerbar into the thermostat, UTHs into the powerbar?

I feel like that makes a lot more sense than what I just said...
You're probably right on that one.

Correct. But as Satomi said they have to be exactly the same size mats. Otherwise the wattage will change and the thermostat may keep one hotter than the other.

Can this also be done with Flexxwatt/THG heating Tape? As long as the combined added up don't overdue the amount of wattage?

    Yup.
Most people who do this actually do it with Heat Tape.
I do it on my racks.
Just make sure all of the pieces are exactly the same size.
